Guest EXPAT Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 A powerful new ad in opposition to Amendment One in North Carolina. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Take a moment to watch an empowered lesbian confront North Carolina Rep. Jim Crawford about voting for Amendment One, and see how he reacts. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Evangelist Billy Graham is coming out strong in favor of North Carolina's awful Amendment One, taking out ads in fourteen papers around the state in favor of writing discrimination into the state constitution. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 A prominent North Carolina pastor has joined the chorus of voices speaking out in favor of Amendment One, which would define marriage as being between a man and a woman in the state's constitution. Ron Baity, founding pastor of Winston-Salem's Berean Baptist Church and head of the anti-marriage equality organization Return America, referred to homosexuality as "a perverted lifestyle" in a Sunday sermon before telling his congregation that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people should be prosecuted, Good as You is reporting. "For 300 years, we had laws that would prosecute that lifestyle," he is quoted as saying. "We've gone down the wrong path. We've become so dumb that we have accepted a lie for the truth, and we've...discarded the truth on the shoals of shipwreck!" Baity's commentary come on the heels of anti-gay marriage remarks made by two other North Carolina religious leaders, Beacon Baptist Church Pastor Tim Rabon andPastor Sean Harris, also of Barean Baptist Church. State residents will go to the polls on May 8 to vote on both the same-sex marriage measure and to pick a Republican presidential candidate. As The New York Times reports, recent polls of the state and an analysis of past ballot initiatives in other states suggest that the measure is likely to pass. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 It doesn't look good on the vote on Amendment One in NC today. If I had a business in that state if this passes, I would move it out of the state immediately. This is a sad video and sad state of affairs. And this is Bill Clinton's robo call against Amendment One for your listening ears. . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lN1f9cxW3bE Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 So I'm sure the lawsuits will now begin. But meanwhile. . . Quote
AdamSmith Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 The astute local newspaper, The News & Observer (on whose current editor I irrelevantly recall having had a secret crush when we were in junior high together), offers trenchant reporting in the immediate aftermath: http://m.newsobserver.com/observer/db_277265/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=F9lAOCLJ Quote

AdamSmith Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Tell us the truth, AS...how many 1st cousin marriages in your extended family? My father's father and his mother came from two families that had intermarried since the mid-1700s. Would you like to see the family Bibles? Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Now tell us the truth too MsGuy.. Tell us the truth, AS...how many 1st cousin marriages in your extended family? Quote
Members MsGuy Posted May 11, 2012 Members Posted May 11, 2012 My grandfather and his 1st cousin (they were close as brothers and lived next door to each other all their lives) married sisters. I grew up calling the cousin Uncle X and thought he was Granddad's brother until I was a teenager. Does that count? LOL, city folks just don't understand how few possible mates there were to be found in small rural communities before the advent of the automobile. You just settled for what was available. Mostly it didn't work out so very bad. Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Yes MsGuy it comes to my theory of affordability and availability!!! Do you want to write it together? You can read my writings and give your input.. and correct my bad English.. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 To Boycott North Carolina or Not? That Is the Question. Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Time will come when affordability and availability will naturally enable gay rights in these States.. No need to be all righteous and condemn North Carolians for voting Amendment One.. To Boycott North Carolina or Not? That Is the Question. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 That weird pastor in NC is at it again. Why on earth anyone sits and listens to him is beyond me. The entire congregation must be bigots. Charles L. Worley, North Carolina Pastor: Put Gays And Lesbians In Electrified Pen To Kill Them Off. Doesn't he know we'd just click our heels three times to get out of there? Quote

Members TampaYankee Posted May 22, 2012 Members Posted May 22, 2012 I used to have a very favorable opinion of North Carolina. The western part of the state is beautiful. I often thought it would be nice to live in Ashville. The Research Triangle tapped the synergy of good schools and industry to bring a modern competitive environment to the State that compares well with other similar hybrid communities. It is a banking center for the country. All very impressive. Then I had a friend, looking for a change, move to Charlotte to take a high school librarian job. Even though certifications were reviewed and deemed acceptable for transfer from one state to the other by local officials, it seems the state bureaucracy couldn't get it done. They couldnt find their asses with both hands. So, after two months of not getting anything done, this person switched to a teaching position with transferred credentials which the bureaucracy thought it could handle. Then at the school, although the department heads were motivated, the staff and teachers seemed unable to care any less. It was not obvious that many were competent to hold their positions. In fact it seemed that many were not competent to hold their position. The students were unmotivated, combative and threatening. My friend found this lax attitude prevalent everywhere: grocery stores, service stations, banks, etc. People acted like they couldn't be bothered. After four months, my friend returned home to teaching at the same school left earlier. It left quite a bad taste after all of that. Now this Amendment One added to the list of state attributes, well... it doesn't make it smell any sweeter to me. Too bad, it is a beautiful state. But I'll pass. There are many other beautiful states without so much baggage. Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 NC is a great state with many competent and hard working people. I am not so sure whether you have been to other developing countries but compared to them NC is a great place to live. Well, I would have never thought to compare NC to a developing country. Guess because I never seriously considered living in a developing country. I'm sure it compares much more favorably in that arena. Quote
AdamSmith Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Well, I would have never thought to compare NC to a developing country. Please don't. The outcome could be embarrassing. ...This might be the place to disclose a state secret: Earlier this year I vacated NYC and moved back to NC. Guest hitoallusa Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Don't worry my Adam Smith.. Your Scarlet will make NC, THE State in the US... After I'm done my next target is Africa..
