Members MsGuy Posted April 26, 2012 Members Posted April 26, 2012 I imagine you guys are getting tired of my countdown updates.. but 6 weeks from today is departure to paradise... Lurker, you go boy! If I had ticket in hand for a week in Brazil, I would be the front-runner in Oz's posting contest. Hell, I'd probably have three or four threads going, each dedicated to a different aspect of the trip. Quote
Guest lurkerspeaks Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 thanks, but I dont want to "overkill".. I mean, I will post a journal during and/or after my trip.. and for now am just "teasing" everyone with little tidbits of info/pics etc .... Quote
Members ihpguy Posted April 26, 2012 Members Posted April 26, 2012 Meio Mundo has been quite tedious the last ten days or so. Unfortunate. Hope it picks up for your visit. Quote

Guest lurkerspeaks Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Leandro is huge in the video, but there are many more just as big in Rio.. I don't know if it is something in the water.. or all the fresh fruit they consume.. or maybe it is from all the Acai they drink.. Quote
Guest tomcal Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 "leandro" in the video clip was a guy a friend of mine met about 3 years ago when he first started working in the sauna, He invited him back to the Atlantico Hotel and he basically did the same strip show for the 3 of us that were in the room, he went into the shower and started to J/O. Has never been the shy type! He is from a city in the north of Brazil and to show what can happen to a poor sauna boy with the right equipment, In the intervening 3 years he has been taken to Europe twice on trips and done 3 Meditterean Cruises and gone from a $50.R /session to $300R/per and stopped working the sauna and had his regular clients.(although when he runs short of cash his rates quickly come back down and he will work the sauna for a few nights.) He also was working in Sao Paulo alot. The pic below was taken at the Atlantico in my room but I have never been with him! I am told he likes bttming much more than topping. He is short, about 5'5" so his dick, 8", even looks larger. Quote
Members lookin Posted April 27, 2012 Members Posted April 27, 2012 He is short, about 5'5" so his dick, 8", even looks larger. Amazing how perspective makes these shorter guys look massively hung. Just realized that, if I had topped out at 3'11", I could have had a pretty successful porn career. Quote
Members MsGuy Posted April 27, 2012 Members Posted April 27, 2012 Lookin, first you need to overcome your shyness about letting your junk hang out. Quote

Guest lurkerspeaks Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Good news for anyone planning a trip to Rio in the immediate future. The dollar has been strengthening recently. As of today, $1 USD = 1.885 Reais....It has been hovering at this price for a couple of weeks now. Will we see it hit 1:2 again??? Quote
Guest Hoover42 Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I wonder how the Atlantico can charge that much for a room. Are all the hotels in Rio charging such outrageous rates now? Quote
Guest lurkerspeaks Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 unfortunately for most people, YES, they are charging that much. and they are not what most Americans would consider luxury. Supposedly, the Fasano, which is one of the premier hotels in Rio, has been selling rooms at over $1000 USD per night. Quote
Guest tomcal Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I wonder how the Atlantico can charge that much for a room. Are all the hotels in Rio charging such outrageous rates now? Rio has a shortage of Hotel rooms and are supposedly going to be adding 15,000+ rms by the 2016 Olympics. When I was last in Rio I stopped by the Atlantico and talked to one of the desk people I have known for 10 years there, and he showed me that they were booked full that week and upcoming weeks! that's why they can charge outragous prices, He even said "we haven't upgraded the beds/linens or rooms in 20 years! except for the new rooms they made out of the old suites at the end of each floor. The Fasano is the premier/trendy hotel(Madonna stays there) in Ipanema and is just down the block from the gay beach, I just checked to see and it's small non ocean view rooms start at $770./nt and most are over $1,100 /nt. for June which is "low season" and they are totally booked 2 of the 4 weeks in June! Rio hotels have gotten like NYC's when it was booming before the last recession. Quote
Guest FourAces Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 WOW those room prices are out of this world. So between the airfare and hotel rates alone Rio doesn't seem to be the bargain it once was. I hope for all my Rio traveling friends the boys don't raise their rates too. I can see why Firecat is spending his time in Colombia even with nearly no oxygen its at least affordable Quote
Guest lurkerspeaks Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I agree that airfare has continued to go up for trips to Rio. But being the creative people we are here at MER, (and Daddys and GTB), many of us have turned to renting apartments instead of hotels when traveling to Rio. For $100 per night, +/-, you can find a nice one bedroom apartment for a week or so, and if you are traveling with a friend, a 2 bedroom apartment can be found for around $150-200. Or course, depending on your desired level of luxury, there are options cheaper, and options more pricey. But most of the units I have seen in ads would appear to be at the very least, as nice as the outdated Atlantico. Quote
Guest tomcal Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Lurker is right! nice apartments within 1 to 2 blocks of either Copacabana or Ipanema beach can be gotten for around $100./nt. and at least the last 4 that I have rented have been much better than the rooms at the Atlantico! For my trip in June we have a very nice 2 bedroom with averages. $95./nt apiece for the two of us and it's two blocks from the gay beach in Ipanema. If you are dependent on room service/someone cleaning your room/making your bed than a Hotel is the way to go, but at least in Rio you are really paying alot for those privledges! So far these past two years that I switched from Hotel to apartments in Rio, I have kept my housing costs close to the same as before the rates on hotels skyrocketed. Quote
Guest lurkerspeaks Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Tom is spot on with his comments.. You can keep your housing costs close to the same from a few years ago, plus you are (usually) getting a much nicer place, more spacious, with the added bonus (again, usually) with a full kitchen. That kitchen will help those who are so inclined, to save some on food expenses by stocking up at the local grocery store for some of your meals, snacks, beverages, etc. Quote
Members axiom2001 Posted May 1, 2012 Members Posted May 1, 2012 ...guess I'd have to forego future hotel stays and remain staying in selective apartments.... Quote
Guest lurkerspeaks Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 The dollar closed yesterday at 1:1.90..... almost at $1 usd = $2 reais.. Quote
Members ihpguy Posted May 3, 2012 Members Posted May 3, 2012 If one chooses to stay in Queimados, in the Baixada, near where many of the boys actually live.... and near a certain Pracinha where the circle around looking for older men, a kitchenette can be had for 150-200Reais/MONTH. Quote
Guest lurkerspeaks Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Hey IHPguy or anyone else who lives or visits Rio frequently.. Can you give us a day by day guide of which sauna is more popular currently? I know Tues is free cabine night at 117, so it is usually a very busy night.. how about other nights? thanks Quote
Members ihpguy Posted May 3, 2012 Members Posted May 3, 2012 On an ad hereon-line, a 2 bedroom/ 2 bath in Ipanema is going for 1500Reais for the the third week in June, for example. Frequently, when calling the owners, they will quote better prices if they fear having an empty unit. Never hurts to ask if reserving close to the arrival date. Quote
