Members JKane Posted March 24, 2012 Members Posted March 24, 2012 Alan Turing is a national hero. His contribution to computer science, and hence to the life of the nation and the world, is incalculable. The ripple-effect of his theories on modern life continues to grow, and may never stop. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/31659 Best way England could recognize his importance to his field and apologize for their past bigotry... Probably no point in non-subjects signing it though. Quote
Members MsGuy Posted March 24, 2012 Members Posted March 24, 2012 I have some English online friends and will bring this petition to their attention. Turing was more than a ground breaking mathematician. His work was critical to the Brits breaking of the German Enigma machine codes, contributing greatly to Allied victory in the North Atlantic anti-submarine war, to the break through by Montgomery at El Alamein in North Africa and to the success of the Normandy invasion and subsequent operations in Europe. I believe Eisenhower once estimated that reading the Enigma codes saved over 100,000 lives of Allied servicemen by giving SHAEF military intelligence detailed dispositions and orders of German land and sea forces. In the early 50's, Brit police and courts hounded him to suicide for being openly homosexual. Among other things he was subjected to chemical castration. Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Do they take foreign votes or is it just for British? Quote
