National "UN-Plug" day

Recommended Posts

Could you spend an hour away from your cell phone, computer or social media? Probably not. Well then how about a day? An organization called the Sabbath Manifesto wants you to do just that for the third annual "National Day of Unplugging."

Starting at sundown on Friday (March 23) and extending through sundown Saturday (March 24) the group is encouraging people to participate in what they're calling "digital detox."

The organization explains on their site, "The National Day of Unplugging is a respite from the relentless deluge of technology and information...Shut down your computer. Turn off your cell phone. Stop the constant emailing, texting, Tweeting and Facebooking to take time to notice the world around you. Connect with loved ones. Nurture your health. Get outside. Find silence. Avoid commerce. Give back. Eat Together."

Perhaps the great irony of this is their campaign features the Twitter hashtag "#Unplug." But they've gotta get their message out there somehow, right?
