The Changing MER

There is room for 28 threads on the main page of the Hooboy Pub, which is the face of MER to the world. If someone were looking at this site for the first time, this is the picture that they would get.

Of the 28 threads, 20 of them involve Hollywood or sports celebrities. One could be forgiven for mistaking the site for a Perez Hilton imitation.

If I were coming to the site for the first time, I would move on within seconds. I simply don't care for Hollywood trivia. I am looking for a site of interest to adult gay men. Yes, I know some of them are into this aspect of celebrity, but I am not.

Since the site has changed its focus so much, my interest has waned. If I did want Hollywood stuff, you cannot seriously argue that other sites don't do it better.

But I don't question the right of management or the site members to take the site in a different direction.

I feel that someone has to note that this is not the MER it was when I came here. It has limited interest to me these days. If that changes, I will be happy to post more often. And no, it is not up to me to change it. The members have made their preferences known, and I don't like uphill climbing!

Well food is something everybody likes to talk about or weather is often used as a ice breaking topic... I learned that from the professional development sessions I attended.. We all have different background and preferences. It's hard to agree on many sensitive topics.. So people try to avoid those... In the thread about Barbara, lurker talked about his childhood related to Barbara and I find it precious and I get to know lurker better in my opinion. We get to another side of humor Gcursor uses that I would have never known if our Lookin has not explained it to me. I get to know more about what Adam Smith read in college and what kind of books he enjoys. Oz shared about his family history and his own addiction problem with diet coke. I shared about using student ID to get discounts for everything I do and amazingly people accept it.. This is everyday undisguised gay men's daily lives we see here. We sometimes laugh, cry and share sympathy...I think it's precious...

I guess it depends how you look at things Lucky.. I find joy and happiness in little things people here post here...

Lucky I don't think you are being fair when you say the site is headed in a new direction. The site is the same as it was from day one about escort reviews. What has changed is the forum.

I believe, since many of us are familiar with each others online characters that tends to create a more homogenized community. We tend to share a common interest in escorts and look to share other common interests as well, ie entertainment, food, computers, travel tips.

Do I care to read many of the second hand entertainment topics, usually not. I have other sites I go for that information.

We have the other forums to post pics discuss escorts and share travel reports. To judge this message center on one forum is a bit harsh, I think.

The Hooboy Forum on Male Escort Review is the general topic forum and not the Male Escort forum. It is open to topics that aren't covered other places and that entertainment issues are welcome. As it is named for Hooboy who was a lover of all forms of entertainment, I think it is great to have these topics here. I have no doubt he would have loved them.

A few months back Lucky, you were talking about how dead the site was and how no one was participating. Now, it is a busy place with lots of regulars posting on a regular basis. I hope that you know that part of this excitment is due to your hard work and effort over the years and this the robust discussions are really a tribute in part to all your work.

I was lucky enough to read 4's post before he removed it and I found it really on point.

As for me, I love the direction of the forum and the site. So much in fact, we are working on a new build for the front end that will give you shock and awe!

As I say, I don't dispute the right of management or membership to change the nature of the site. The new layout looks great.

I am simply saying that I am not finding topics of interest to me like I used to. Tomcal has done a great job reporting on Latin America and I have enjoyed that forum. But my Latin America travels are done.

I appreciate the opportunity I had to post here and wish everyone well.
