Gaybutton Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Honey Boy is one of Pattaya's newest bars, having opened just yesterday (November 10). It is located directly across the street from Wild West Boys and I understand the bar is owned by the same people that own Wild West Boys. We dropped by this evening to have a look. It is a very pleasant bar, comfortable seating, and an array of boys to please most tastes. It is a typical Pattayaland bar. From opening time until 10:00, all drinks are 99 baht. After 10:00, all drinks are 150 baht. The "off" fee is 300 baht. The bar puts on a nightly show at 11:00, but we did not stay long enough to see the show. It is certainly worth a look. My only complaint would be the music volume. It's far too loud for my taste and you do have to shout to be heard. Other than that, I truly liked the bar and the boys. Tai Boys is also brand new. Louis, the owner of the former Tai Boys Boys and Gacuya bars has opened a new Tai Boys bar in Pattayaland, Soi 1, next door to the new Star Boys bar. I have not yet had an opportunity to take a look, but I soon will. As long as I mentioned music volume, that's another one for my "I don't get it" list. Why in God's name so many bars insist upon music volume being so loud goes beyond me. I don't stay very long in bars at which the music volume is so loud that you have to shout and end up with ears throbbing for a half hour after leaving the bar. Whenever I've heard customers saying anything about music volume in these bars, it's always a request to lower the volume. I've certainly never heard a customer say, "Please turn up the volume." Since it ought to be perfectly obvious to anyone that most customers dislike the extreme volume, would someone please explain to me why so many bars do that anyhow? Quote
Gaybutton Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 I'm going to retract a bit of what I originally wrote about Honey Boy. This evening I stopped in and spent some time there. The music volume is now at an acceptable level, loud, but not too loud. The lighting is good and the colors are very nice, almost art decco. The ceiling sports two crystal chandeliers (reminded me of the opening of Phantom of the Opera). There is a good selection of boys, some dancing and some doing the "one-knee shuffle." The entertaining mama-san is Mama Laila, who had been across the street at Wild West Boys. But be careful. Mama Laila can be on the pushy side and is likely to try to get you to buy a drink for her. There was one thing I did not like at all. I was there during the 'happy hour,' from opening time until 10:00 when drinks are 99 baht. The price reverts to 150 baht at 10:00. But that's your price. I discovered that if you buy a drink for a boy, a waiter, the mama-san, or any other employee of the bar, then their drinks cost you 150 baht each no matter what time it is. The "off" fee is 300 baht. Quote

Guest buaseng Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Visited Honey Boys for the first time last night. My experience varies considerably from GB. Although the seating itself is comfortable the sitting position is most uncomfortable, especially if one has restricted mobility/flexibility in the legs - one has to squat down almost arab style - the seating is only about a foot above the floor. I find the bar far too narrow and cramped. The music was almost unbearably loud and the drink prices even before 10 pm were 150 Baht. The bar does have a quite large number of boys for it's size but they tend to be on the effeminate side. The only redeeming feature about the place is the decor which is a nice change from the normal black/crome/mirrors. All in all, not a very pleasant experience, and I and my companion will certainly NOT be visiting again. Quote
Gaybutton Posted November 30, 2007 Author Posted November 30, 2007 My experience varies considerably from GB. Somehow I'm not surprised. I sat in the back row and the seats were the same as anywhere else, to my recollection. Did you sit in the front row? Is that where the kind of seating you describe was? I didn't pay any attention to the front row when I was there. I am surprised, however, that you were charged 150 baht for drinks before 10:00. I wasn't. What time were you there? Did you say anything to the manager or mama-san when your bill came? If yes, what did they say? Quote

If yes, what did they say? Sat on the back row where, unless one is directly at the top of the step up, the sitting position is definately restricted and uncomfortable (I am partially restricted in leg movement/flexibility). We were there at approximately 9.35 pm. Were not aware of any special 'promotion before 10 pm on drinks' therefore did not complain about the drink price. Did comment to the person who appeared to be in charge (mamasan not particularly evident) about the loudness of the music but was met with the customary shrug of the shoulders and even more customary no action. As I said, another bar struck off my list of places to re-visit! Quote
Gaybutton Posted December 1, 2007 Author Posted December 1, 2007 As I said, another bar struck off my list of places to re-visit! My biggest peeve would be the price you paid for the drink. The seating comfort, "quality" of the boys, and music volume are matters of personal taste and opinion, but the drink prices are a matter of fact and cannot be disputed. I was assured, twice, that drink prices do not go to 150 baht until 10:00. If you were charged that price before 10:00 then either the bar has changed its prices or is not living up to the assurance I was given. If the latter is true, then I won't be back either. Quote
