Members Lucky Posted February 27, 2012 Members Posted February 27, 2012 Well, I guess the live blogging of the Oscars has fizzled. I don't want to be talking to myself. EXPAT, come back! Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I've been entertaining and feeding my guests. So I had to put the computer down for a bit. So far the awards are just as predicted. The writing awards went exactly as predicted -- "The Descendants" and "Midnight in Paris". I wonder why Woody Allen never shows up for these awards. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 It seems like the Oscars are running slow this year. The timing seems to be off for some reason. Billy Crystal is still very good on his feet. I could have done without Will Farrell. I'm not a fan of his since he ruined "Bewitched". Quote
Members Lucky Posted February 27, 2012 Members Posted February 27, 2012 I'm rooting for The Artist. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Best Director this year is a tough category. There were so many great films. I really think Hugo (Martin Scorsese) or Midnight in Paris (Woody Allen) deserve it. I really enjoyed those two movies the most in 2011. They were both so excellent. And the Oscar goes to "The Artist". I guess that was expected, but IMO disappointing. I still think that movie was too gimmicky. . . Quote
Members Lucky Posted February 27, 2012 Members Posted February 27, 2012 Woody Allen had another engagement tonight. Quote

Guest EXPAT Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Even though I liked "The Artist", I'm just not seeing it as a Best Picture. I so loved "Hugo" and "Midnight in Paris". But I didn't get a chance to vote unfortunate. The in memoriam segment was touching. I'm glad they remembered Whitney Houston. This show is really running slow tonight. It's driving me nuts. Get on with it. . . And the Best Actor Oscar goes to. . . .Jean DuJardin. And the Best Actress Oscar goes to . . . Meryl Streep !!!!! YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH And BEST PICTURE goes to. . . THE ARTIST My evening has been made because Meryl Streep won Best Actress. She is my all time favorite actor and she deserves this and many more awards and accolades for her work. Thank you and good night. Quote
Members Lucky Posted February 27, 2012 Members Posted February 27, 2012 I thought he was good. Does Viola Davis have a lock on Best Actress? Quote

Was surprised Hugo go so many 'incidental' Oscars, Artist got the big ones of course. I thought Crystal did a pretty good job, certainly seemed a bit better than years past, even when they were hosted by people I'd *thought* would be great... Loved the jokes about the formerly Kodak theater. Didn't think much of the Cirque number but the audience gave it a standing ovation... had to be there? Still want to see Iris--and that gorgeous theater in person! Was it just me or DID THE SOUND FOR THE TELECAST FUCKING SUCK OR WHAT? Mixing was for crap with music often as loud or louder than the narration, but even worse was starting about 1/3rd of the way in (all the way through the end) there was this horrible buzzing sound towards the high end of the spectrum... sounded like there were people with vuvuzelas in the audience for christsake! All in all the 3 movies I actually saw won almost all the awards, (though I'd thought Hugo was fairly forgettable...). Didn't hear any mention of Bully and the MPAA fuckery, damn it. Quote
