New Visa Extension Regulations

Recommended Posts

Today I was at the Immigration office. A friend was trying to get a 30-day extension for his tourist visa. There is a new regulation, or at least today was the first time I became aware of it, so it's new to me. Now, in order to get the extension, you must present an airline ticket showing that you will leave Thailand prior to the expiration date of the extension.

That doesn't make much sense to me considering the fact that there are other modes of transportation besides air available in order to leave the country, but there it is. No airline ticket, no extension.

GB, from what I've read on Thai Visa this has been a standard in the Pattaya Immigration Office for awhile now. Some immigration officers also check for returns tickets on arrival in BKK, and I think the Cambodian border crossing also enforces proof of onward travel (but one can use a bus ticket there). Other border crossings and Immigration offices are not consistent in applying the rule.

This only deals with tourist visas so those on other types of visa may never have seen this or heard of this requirement. TIT. If you don't like a rule or regulation, just stick around as it will change.
