Guest EXPAT Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 http://www.frontiersla.com/Other/PDF/BackIssues/3021.pdf The above link is the latest issue of Frontiers in LA Magazine. It's one of the main gay magazines in West Hollywood/Los Angeles/San Diego that comes out every two weeks. It's a merger of two magazine from a couple of years ago. I'm amazed who at who chooses to advertises in this magazine. But since the magazine is free, it has to thrive on ads. And if you take a look issue after issue it's all about prescription drugs or plastic surgery or dental work. It's amazing to me. I really wonder if gay people really buy from those type of ads. But they continue to be represented issue after issue. Quote

There is a lot of vanity and search for physical perfection in the community. Lots of guys in a certain age band want perfection and feel they have to offer it to get it -- or as close as they can get to it. But this is no revelation to this community, is it?. Quote
Guest FourAces Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 EXPAT Frontiers has been around 3 decades. You commented its a merger of two mags from a few years ago ... what two magazines are you referring to? Also is the San Diego distribution somewhat new? They used to stop at the OC line. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 FrontiersLA is the new magazine and it's a merger of Frontiers and IN LA magazine. That merger happened 2 to 3 years ago. Quote
Members Lucky Posted February 7, 2012 Members Posted February 7, 2012 EXPAT, not all that long ago I went through Frontiers and posted the number of ads they had advertising cosmetic surgery or a related tool. It is amazing that gay men must have self-images that succumb to this type of advertising. But, when I was a bit younger, the pressure was on to have a nice, gym-toned body, smooth skin and a hairless chest, perfect teeth and manicured hands. Now that I am older, it seems that I need a combination of Viagra and a wallet, and tools to keep my nose/ear hair shaved. After that, no one cares! Well, I guess I have to smell good too. Quote
