I declare EXPAT the Winner ahead of time....

Recommended Posts

.....As long as he agrees to stop posting.

Not that I find "Expats" topics of interest, interests which I can not relate to or find an interest within myself, but, If I wanted to have a conversation with myself, I'd cancel my isp, directv, telephone service and 4g service and only rely upon my own front door to find a conversation with a stranger within.

Cash for trash has created this so I don't feel so bad in suggesting that Expat should be named the winner of this contest ahead of time, so that these forums can return to what they once were, before this contest ever began.

I mean, really, how much of anyone, can anyone here, really endure of anyone here?

I'm just asking, if what was here before was disappointing, how does the same thing X 500 (in dollars)help by paying people to continue ?

Don't hate on me, I'm just sayin'.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, simon. I've just turned off a bunch of my 'new topic' notifications because I'm tired of getting so many daily messages (9 today) that EXPAT's started a new topic that I don't have the slightest interest in...

I appreciate that Oz is trying to make this forum more active and I wish I had the time to participate in it than the occasional sporadic post, But I don't think this has been the way to do it, and by turning off my notifications I already know that I'll be visiting the forum less and participating even more infrequently than I have been to date...

EXPAT has 27 of the threads in the Politics forum main page, so it is easy to think he might be overdoing it. BUT, he is following the contest rules, which encourage this very thing. So any objection must be directed to the admins and not EXPAT. It is clear to me that he will win for most posts and could ease off, BUT the contest also rewards for achieving a certain number of posts. So I say don't blame EXPAT for trying to win, blame the contest rules. Perhaps it is time to review them and see if they make for a better message center. As Simon likes to say: Just saying.

No changing the rules in the middle of the race. :getlost:

Besides, Expat has posted many excellent messages. I don't hang on every one but he posts great pics and has become essentially our Hollywood Reporter and shares the hot LA Club scene both verbally and pictorially. Then there is his enthusiastic political contributions.

As I said, I don't hang on his every post but I do read lots and he has taken the contest to heart. Many of his posts warrant a lot more attention and comment than they are given but that's ok too. Participation is totally voluntary around here and if you can pick up a few hundred dollars along the way why bitch at that.

I'm not sure which is worse: too disinterested to post or too disinterested to read. Fortunately, a few are interested enough to bitch -- any sign of life is good. :console:

Ah, well. When someone sees his post drop to the second page rapidly due to the influx of new posts by one person, that does not encourage that person to keep posting. That's how I see the contest rules as counter productive. Nonetheless, the powers that be have ruled, and the chips will fall as they may. We will no doubt be aware of any nominees to virtually any award show though. If that's what you come here for...

If one thinks their post worthy of note and it gets assigned to page two by lesser posts then nothing stops one from 'bumping it' to the top for further consideration. I've certainly done that in my life. If, on the other hand, two or three bumps do not entice a bite or even a nibble then maybe democracy has decided.

The strategy is simple math. The contest is for 5 months with an average of 29 days a month. In order to hit 2190 new posts, one has to post at least 15.4 posts a day. I chose roughly 20 a day so that I have a buffer in the event that I am unable to post on some days. I'm trying my hardest to post on varying topics like movies, TV, escorts, nude pictures, self-improvement, sports, politics and random 'caption this' posts so that hopefully at least one or two posts generate some interest. But everything I post has some interest for me and that's why I am posting them.

The stated goal of the website is now "any sign of life is good." That will certainly encourage more posting. I don't quibble with EXPAT's strategy for winning the contest, I quibble with whether the contest has proven good for the website and enhances my reason for being here. It isn't, and it doesn't.

Those who have posted less since the contest began are given no reason to reconsider. Other websites already do Hollywood gossip, and do it well. But if that's what you want to encourage, well, you da boss.

Kiss my butt Lucky!! That is NOT my stated goal. Cut the shit.

I do not like people that put words in my mouth or twist them to make something unintended.

I'm all for declaring EXPAT the winner, paying him first, second, and third place prizes, sending him to Rio for a month, and let the complainers shape the forum they want, but I am not running the contest.

All i can say is you are damned if you do and damned if you don't...

We had all been bitching about how quiet it was around here.. how we wanted more people to participate. So the site owners TRIED to entice more people to post more often. Was their plan perfect? maybe not, but it was an attempt to get things flowing here. Just like Lucky's attempts, and my attempts, and several other posters attempts. TY and OZ even offered real, concrete expensive prizes.

But now that we got more postings, the vocal majority still are not satisfied. Sure, the postings have gone off in many different tangents, but that is to be expected. More posts = more topics. Not every post appeals to every person. Never has and never will. Unfortunately, TY and OZ's attempt hasn't seemed to attract many (except maybe Simon) new posters. But at least they cared enough to try..

So I say, lay off the bitching- Stop the kvetching... Read what you want to read.. If you aren't interested in a post..it's simple. DO NOT READ IT...Expat will slow down his postings soon enough and then we will have a dormant board once again...

I for one am grateful for this board, its owners and the open forum we have to say whatever we want, whenever we want...Thank you Tampa Yankee and Totally OZ for allowing ME the space to let me voice be heard, even it it is only a tiny whisper.

Whoa there, TY, calm down! :console: Let's not toss the baby with the bath water!

I still have hopes that slow but sure will at least get me into the drawing. :P

PS And don't get into a war with Lucky until he has finished posting the memoirs of his latest adventures in the land of the Thais. I, for one, am awaiting them with great anticipation.

There will be no war. I am a pacifist. BUT, look how many posts the Pub got since this morning. Even Lookin came out to play.

I didn't succeed with my post though...

No war, just an expressive opinion about how I like my own words used. As for babies and bathwater, I don't have any to toss. :shifty: I too await the next installment of Lucky's travelogue. Notice the French spelling, hoping that Lucky will get the hint to hit Viet Nam on the way back. Those hotties he posted were... well... hot!.

BTW, If I had Mitt's pockets I'd send you along to carry EXPAT's luggage. Recalling your back issues, I'd have to come along too to carry all the luggage. B) But given my knees :( I'd have to ask lookin' to come along to organize all the luggage boys needed to carry all that luggage. Ummmmm... who else am I leaving off this fantasy trip :( Oh yes, several more come to mind including lurker... and... and...

For the want of Mitt's pockets... :baby: Is it envy  No just fantasy fueled by lust. and maybe a little :santa: complex.

First of all, Mr. Yankee said that bitching was a sign of life, and that that was good. So, I bitched. A trial lawyer is always taking a witness' words and using them in the most detrimental way. So, I dissented by taking Ty's words and using them in a trial lawyer fashion. He didn't like that, proving my point that "any sign of life is good" was not quite what he meant. Most witnesses don't like it when they speak carelessly and have their words turned against them. Of course, he is not a witness, but it seemed to me to be a pretty direct way of showing that "any" sign of life was not good.

Not sure how Mitt Romney figures in this, but he doesn't like having his words from earlier campaigns used against him either.

As for the knees, mine are not great either. After an 11 hour flight to Tokyo, I got down on the floor at Narita to get into my carry-on. Getting back up was a bitch as my knees had stiffened up on the flight. I was embarrassed, yet grateful, when a woman in Muslim garb came to me and extended a helping hand. There. I got the gripe, the Mitt, and a bit of travelogue into one post. (And now for Vietnam too!)

As for Vietnam, I have been there, and did not see anyone who looked like those movie stars I posted in the picture gallery.

+1 on everything Lurker said. I'd prefer real discussion, though my attempts usually just end up with Expat and I chatting. But stuff of interest is coming up occasionally. The only threads I roll my eyes at are the ones bitching about the contest!

Hmmm... the lawyer slant huh? Reminds me of a few lawyer jokes. What do you call 500 lawyers at the bottom of the Sea? A good start. :P

But present company excepted. Lucky is endearing in a prickly sort of way.:flowers:

I appreciate the additional postings, it wastes more of my time :P

I just think the contest daily post tally was set too high, and a smaller number might have gotten broader participation in the contest. But that's the contest runner's call, not mine, so if this is what he wants, bully for him!
