What's behind the Tebow hatred. . .

I have to admit, I'm hoping that he will go away too, but not for what he believes but for how people are using him for their own agenda. As I mentioned in another thread too many GOP hopefuls are using Tebow to cater to the right wing vote.

Just like I tell my family members who have become evangelistic Christians, "I don't hate the religion, I dislike what people are doing in religion's name."

When I moved to Southern California six years ago, I went to Rick Warren's megachurch in Lake Forest, CA with some other local family members. They were anxious to get me in their membership classes thinking that Rick's church could change me. I was unaware of my family's agenda at the time. Since I liked the services and the casual nature of the message I went to that church for a while. I hadn't done any research on them prior or I doubt I would have gone, but I would have probably wanted to get my own opinion anyway.

So I went to their Class 101 and within the first 30 minutes of the session, the teaching minster told the class of 300 that if you were gay, you could NOT be a member of Saddleback Church unless you denounced your sexuality and got baptized again. I was so shocked that someone would actually say that out loud in 2006. So at the first break, I got up and left and never returned.

I told my family what had happened and they didn't even know that was a "rule" of membership of their church. While they sent letters and complained in my defense their only response was, "well we love the sinner but not the sin and he is still welcome to come as a guest of the church and we hope he does."

I'm still shocked that my family still goes to that church. I've decided to put that aside for family peace but they know how I feel about it.

I dislike him because he's a hypocrite. (at least according to christ)

Matthew 6:5-6

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

He makes a spectacle of his faith. It isn't a quiet private thing. I can respect the good work he does, but as christ says above, he's getting his reward in the adoration of his fans.

I could get behind this kind of Tebowing. Brent Everett posted his version of doing a TEBOW after winning Best Porn Star at the Cybersocket Awards:

Love the pose, love the model!! Pardon me.... I'm having a religious moment.

P.S. I'm glad to see that he dressed for the occasion.

The Tebow HATRED? Are we going to let that pass without comment? Michael Medved wants to say that those who think Tebow is a showboat are HATING him? That's discourse?

Can we not point out hypocrisy without being accused of hatred? It's not like he lost a game because of this.
