And I guess you can get a job in Bismarck, ND if you want. Quote
Guest CharliePS Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Interestingly, all of the California cities on the list are in the Central Valley, except El Centro, which, like the others, is in an area where the main business is agriculture. Since food prices on the whole are rising, one would think that jobs there would be secure. However, these are also the areas where the housing boom was huge, and many of the unemployed were formerly in home construction. Several of the cities on the low unemployment list are also in farming areas, but there was no housing boom in Bismarck or Lincoln, thus no unemployed construction workers, electricians, realtors, mortgage brokers, etc. It goes to show how important the housing bubble was in causing the recession in this country, just as it was in Ireland. By the way, you couldn't have persuaded me to live in any of those CA cities, even when they were booming. Quote
