Guest hitoallusa Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I think several actresses in The Help will get awards. Quote
BiBottomBoy Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 How the hell did Peter Dinklage not get nominated? Quote
BiBottomBoy Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 If the people from The Help win the screen actors guild is going to have a lot of publicity problems. There is a huge backlash against The Help in the black community, particularly among academics and activists, who view it as revisionist history designed to make white people feel better about themselves. Guest EXPAT Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 And the WINNERS are . . . I'm so glad that Betty White won for Best Actress in a Comedy Series "Hot In Cleveland". At 90 she is an amazing woman and actor. Kate Winslett also wins Best Actress for a TV Movie/mini-series for "Mildred Pierce" (Betty White was also nominated for a TV movie in the same category.) But Kate was very good in that mini-series early last year. I'm surprised that Alec Baldwin won for Best Actor in a TV Comedy again for the 6th year in a row. I just don't get "30 Rock". It is just not that good of a show in my opinion. Christopher Plummer won for Best Supporting Actress for a Movie for a terrible movie IMO but they are celebrating his career in movies I believe. Modern Family wins again for Best TV Comedy Ensemble. Octavia Spencer wins for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie. Paul Giamatti wins for Best Actor in a TV Movie or Mini-Series for "Too Big To Fail". "Game of Thrones" won Best Ensemble for Best Stunt Ensemble for TV. And Harry Potter won for Best Stunt Ensemble for Movies. Mary Tyler Moore gets the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award (given by Dick Van Dyke. I feel so bad for MTM. She is nearly blind now as a result of her diabetes and I know she is having problems walking and other mobility. I'm glad that the SAG organization recognized her talent and lifetime achievements. And Jessica Lange wins Best Actress in a TV Drama for "American Horror Story". I'm so thrilled that she won. She was amazing in that role. This is her first SAG award, which is surprising since she won two Oscars. But then again the SAG awards are relatively young. I'm extremely disappointed that Steve Buscemi won Best Actor in a TV Drama. I really don't like that show at all. The writing is really bad in my opinion. But that is just my opinion. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 More winners. . . Best TV Drama Cast went to the cast of Boardwalk Empire. I'm not happy about that win either. UGH It should have gone to Breaking Bad IMO. Best Actor in a Movie went to Jean Dujardin from "The Artist". At least George Clooney didn't win. I'm not a big fan. Best Actress in a Movie went to Viola Davis for "The Help". I wanted Meryl Streep to win but for some reason her peers just never vote her in anymore. But I'm very happy that Viola Davis won. That role and movie was excellent. Best Movie Cast went to "The Help". Wow. I'm thrilled they won. And I'm surprised too. I'm actually glad that "The Artist" did not win. I felt it was just a cutesy throwback to silent pictures. But The Help was amazing. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Mary Tyler Moore won the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award tonight and I have loved everything she has ever done. This is a good article in the LA Time about her career. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/tv/la-ca-mary-tyler-moore-20120129,0,2972232.story Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I thought this was funny. AfterElton posted this gif this morning referring to something else, but I thought this was funny in Octavia Spencer's acceptance speech when she realized how heavy the SAG award was. This was her reaction: Quote
