Members firecat691614502759 Posted December 12, 2011 Members Posted December 12, 2011 Wanted to go for the last year and finally made a short trip of 4 1/2 days. Since I don't speak Spanish and there is not a lot of information on the web, I decided to rely on Gayromeo which I use with great success in Thailand. I conversed with a number of boys in the regular section and the escort section and was encouraged that things would go smoothly even though I knew many of the boys were using google translate . Conversation always makes it better for me but I wasn't traveling to a strange country for conversation. Arrived in Bogota at 930pm and was through customs and in my Hotel by 1030pm. 15 minutes after that one of the boys I made a time with arrived. He looked like the photos and did everything he promised. Pictures of most of the boys will be at the end along with Gayromeo profile numbers for additional photos. He stayed about 2 hours and I gave him the equivalent of $50. That was pretty much what the boys asked for in the Escort section. They put $50 for an hour and anywhere from $100 to $300 for overnight. I did not find any of the boys to be clock watchers so you can expect a couple of hours for your $50. I rarely do overnights unless I have been with the boy a few times so you are on your own if you like all nighters. Now I found the boys in the non escort section never mentioned money and were certainly happy to take the money offered. If I said good bye without offering something, would they have asked? I am not sure. In one case the boy seemed completely surprised but very grateful and in 2 other cases, I felt like they were expecting it but might never have asked.. For me I like it as a financial arrangement. I'm not there looking for a BF and find $50 an extremely fair price for a couple of hours with a quality boy. After 2 nights in Bogota I went to Medellin for 2 nights. Fabulous location at the bottom of a mountain range that looks like Switzerland and has perfect weather year round except for some thunderstorms in the afternoon. Rarely ever below 60 and almost never over 80 year round. I did forget to mention that if you are old and out of shape like me you will get hit with the 9000 ft altitude of Bogota. For 12 hours I was definitely having trouble breathing. Medellin is down around 5000 ft and reminds me of Singapore. 4 to 8 lane roads in the new downtown area and fabulous malls, apartments, condo etc. People are well dressed and their economy is booming. Hook ups were a little harder. Not sure if it was because Medellin is much smaller with a population of 2 million versus 10 million in Bogota. Or it could have been because it was a weekend and the boys have their own things to do. Unlike Brazil, most of the boys are at the University or have jobs. They are just looking to earn some extra money. Also I believe every boy I met was Gay and not Gay for Pay. Now that makes no difference to me one way or another. I am only interested if they do what is promised. Only one boy I met could have been termed slightly fem , the rest were fairly masculine. They all dressed pretty well because generally the country dresses really well . Poor OZ and I will stand out as not well dressed. As far as any safety concerns. I was never concerned but I am always careful in a new country not to wear flashy things or show ads of money. The more affluent areas in both cities , you will not see many police visible, and I guess the reason is cameras everywhere. In the older tourist areas there is a heavy police presence so once again no worries if you are careful. Now I did not do any late nights , or any saunas because time was limited and I was getting plenty of boys. Two of the University boys in Bogota volunteered they had friends for me to see and willing for groups if I wanted. Next trip for sure I will take advantage of that. I found the Colombian people very friendly and willing to help even when my lack of Spanish was a hinderance. Only a 4 1/2 flight from Atlanta , it moves way up on my list for some future visits. I could write a lot more but I know you want pics. Not every boy was comfortable with pics and frankly my pics are not as good as some of the pics the boys post on their ad. I found all the boys used photos that represented how they look at this time. The only changes might be length of hair or style so ask if long hair is important to you. First boy is Douglas23 in escort section of Gayromeo 2nd boy is andresnieto in regular section, 3rd boy is felipelindo5 in escort section, Last 2 photos are LOKOL1 in regular section. The other photo is a guide at the university that i snapped a quick pic of. It doesnt do him justice but boys like this were all over in the malls etc. Quote

Members TampaYankee Posted December 13, 2011 Members Posted December 13, 2011 Firecat, I saw an ad on TV that featured a young American visiting his grandparents hometown in Italy. It showed him asking an old man a question by speaking into a phone or hand-held device that regurgitated his question in Italian. The old man's face light up with understanding only after the playback. You might investigate what apps or devices are out there that might smooth any follow-up trips. I'm sure Spanish would be available. Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted December 13, 2011 Members Posted December 13, 2011 Firecat, thanks for the report on a area we haven't heard too much about! We do get some very excellent detailed reports from episevlla regarding boys, accommodations, sites and travel. They inspired many of us about travel to Colombia. What breadth this report ads is that in addition to a KYTOP report in the past, this is an experience from a non-Spanish-speaking Norte Americano, which helps us under the ease of navigating a cultural/linguistic divide. Thanks, Firecat, for the additional information and perspective on the scene. Quote
TotallyOz Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Firecat kept me updated with photos and e-mails during his time in Columbia. He was giddy! I have spent a great deal of time with him in Thailand and I know when he is like a kid in a candy store. That was the case with Columbia. It created a great deal of interest for me and it is on my 2012 list of places to visit. The report was great Firecat. Thanks for sharing with us! It helps many of us to get an idea of a place to visit that has not really been in our eye sight based on the past history of the country. Quote
Guest FourAces Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Firecat I too just want to throw my hat in the ring and thank you for the exceptional travel report and the nice photos to go along with it btw: I know that many of the Colombian boys on F4F say they are in Medellin. And most are as hot as the examples you posted. Quote

Members firecat691614502759 Posted December 13, 2011 Author Members Posted December 13, 2011 Very nice report. Thanks so much. You may have changed the focus of the forum! Some additional thoughts about prices. In Bogota I was staying in a brand new Hilton on a special rate. The would be regular rate will probably be in the $200 range but I saw some nice looking older Hotels where the rate would be in the $100 range. In Medellin I stayed in a nice older Hotel with a rate of $90 (Poblado Plaza). This hotel was in the section of all the malls, restaurants etc. I have to admit that I like Malls. They provide lots of eye candy, restaurants and something to do after the sightseeing. The malls especially in Medellin are spectacular. The designs are different then any I have seen and make the boring malls in the USA look pretty ordinary. The food courts are a great way to sample Colombian restaurants and staying away from the same old USA companies such as Mac and Burger King. Taxis are relatively cheap. Bogota airport to the Hotel is 30 minutes and about $17. Medellin is 45 minutes and about $30 but worth every penny for the scenery. The airport is on top of a mountain and the entire drive is through wonderful hills and fields that remind me of Switzerland. Taxis around town will cost $3-$10 depending on distance. There are casinos in both cities. I did not go inside having lived in Las Vegas for 6 years , I hate them but some may like the additional diversion. Both cities are relatively new to tourism. Their visitors in the past have been more business oriented but since the Drug Cartels have been beaten back tourism is on the rise. Just don't expect a tourist infrastructure of the type you might find in Rio or Bangkok. It will happen I am sure. Most of the visitors I encountered were from Europe or South America. I never saw another American and from watching people in the Customs line there were definitely no USA passports. Quote

Members axiom2001 Posted December 15, 2011 Members Posted December 15, 2011 Firecat, I must chime in and send my appreciation and thanks. Ever since I've been in contact with some of the guys from COLOMBIA who are on "FlirtForFree," I've been enchanted and fascinated. All of the guys there are handsome, hot, and gorgeously hung. Did I forget to write "sexy as hell, too!!?" Quote
episevilla Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Hi, my experiences in Colombia are a very positive ones, as you may know. But I usually met guys for free, even if sometimes I paid the taxi fare or invitated them to dinner etc. (Not being escorts, I did not dare to publish pics from the handsome guys I met). There is a huge 'market' for a (more or less) distinguished older foreigner (I am 56 y.o.); the problem actually is finding time to honour so many propositions... (the so called embarras du choix!). Better than gayromeo, at least in Medellin, Manhunt worked for me very well. Guys are nice, chatty, usually in great shape, smooth and always smiling. Generally speaking, Colombian are very kind, and they show it in everyday life. I still receive nice messages in my Mhunt account or msn from young guys I met there. So I only hope to get a new invitation next year! Congratulations and greetings Epi Quote
Members firecat691614502759 Posted December 23, 2011 Author Members Posted December 23, 2011 For those of you that I may have piqued your interest in visiting Colombia. The boy I met who speaks perfect English would be very interested in providing guide services or more. He is the last 2 pics in my report. I have told him to talk to friends who might be interested in meeting visitors and if possible to take some photos. He lives in Bogota but is familiar with Medellin , Cartagena, Cali. I will also soon ask him to jot down any knowledge he has of good bars , saunas etc . And by the way he gets 5 stars in the Sex department!!! I am sure than anyone who likes Brazil will like Colombia. If you have any questions feel free to PM me and I will ask him if I don't have the answer. I am definitely not an expert after one trip but I am quite sure with a little pre-planning anyone can have a great time in Colombia. Hopefully in the near future I will have some more photos of willing boys. I am also sure that our spanish speaking poster (episevilla) is quite correct in boys being available without much in compensation if you speak Spanish. Something for everyone and a fairly short flight from many US cities compared to some other popular destinations. By the way a recent search finds some great vacation apartment rentals at 1/2 the price of Hotels and less then Brazil and apparently much more modern. No personal experience yet but next time probably a good idea. Quote

People are starting to discover the new HOT Destination in South America!!! Quote
Members Lucky Posted December 28, 2011 Members Posted December 28, 2011 "I am also sure that our spanish speaking poster (episevilla) is quite correct in boys being available without much in compensation if you speak Spanish." Without meaning to step on anyone's toes, what would be the reason that men who, and let's be frank, need to pay for sex, are somehow desired for free by entering Colombia? Are Colombian youth just that horny? Or does the older man take on a different attraction in that culture? I mean, let's face it, we don't want to exploit anyone. Most of us would be willing to pay. Perhaps it is cultural, as I often found in Mexico. The boy doesn't want to ask for money, lest he be considered a prostitute, but he will accept a taxi fare that more than covers the price of a taxi. Am I close? Quote

The same sensitivity can also apply in MTL. There is a spectrum of personalities and with them interpretations of actions and gratitude expression in personal interactions. Some guys are quite cut and dried. Others view friendly accommodations as a measure of friendship and respect. Don't assume one size fits all. Be sensitive to your companion less you unintentionally offend someone that could be a wonderful friend. I assume the same would apply in Columbia or any latino society. That's my guess anyway. Quote
Members msclelovr Posted December 29, 2011 Members Posted December 29, 2011 I will try to answer Lucky's questions. I've spent considerable time in Argentina with Argentines (and I holiday there for a month each year now). My insights are based on that country but I suspect the same applies to Colombia as well. I've spent only a little time in Brazil but have met many Brazilians in Europe. Latin American countries seem to have a patriarchal structure of a type that may have existed in Europe before the 1960s but has now vanished. The middle-aged man is seen not only as mature but valued as experienced and worldly. Dressing smartly and appropriately is also an important part of Hispanic culture, and seen as part of the expression of respect, both self-respect and respect for others. Middle-aged men are also most likely (or expected) to be financially secure and able to provide for others. On my first visit to Buenos Aires, I wore polo-shirt and shorts on hot, sunny days and I found this marked me as a foreigner. It did mean I attracted a cute blond with a good civil service job who liked Europeans, and he was a constant companion for that visit. On subsequent visits, I wore long sleeved shirts, smart trousers and jacket during the day and a smart suit and tie in the evening. Once I was dressed much better, I really met Argentines ;-) They approached me in stores, cafes and on the street. One cute young man followed me into a supermarket, another propositioned me in a cafe one afternoon, a handsome guy suggested dinner when I was in a travel-agency, and I met in the street (and had a fling with) a local 'heart-throb'. No guys asked me for money. But of course, I invited them to dinner and paid (tho the heart-throb insisted he take me out and he paid). Of course, when a cute guy stayed overnight and took care of my needs, it felt natural to look after him by taking him shopping after breakfast. The gifts were not significant by US or European standards. And I don't wish to sound mean or anti-American but the most common complaint I've heard locally is about how badly or inappropriately American men dress. It's simply seen as embarrassing and disrespectful if men turn up in sweatpants and baseball caps for dinner. Naturally, no-one will say anything to the man's face but afterwards, you should hear the locals talk! Quote

Even in Europe or in the USA it is not that uncommon for an older gentleman to meet a younger one, on a simple sexual preference basis... It seems to me than in Latin America the number of younger guys looking for older is just higher... Quote

Post by Bluboy Let a man never come between the seekers and the hookers! I truly aplogize for my tardiness but as it happened i extended my stay into Ecuador. The problem is that i am travelling with the ipad and not the laptop and i cannot type for long on the ipad. I am still not so skilled. Takes aeons. But since i am causing consternation here are the highlights as can be written by ipad. Thr trip was 2 weeks in cartagena, medellin, cali and bogota. For history and ambling aroind town.. Cartagena wins hands down. For food Medellin especially a restaurant called Carmen and El Cielo. for men medellin and bogota. The best sites to use for me were gayromeo, manhunt and grindr or good old fashion gay bars. No one is a hooker and if you act or try to approach them as that there is loads of sensitivities and offense taken. So entire thing is more subtle. You are in fact lookingbfor a guide or yoi are looking to take a few guys oit just to learn more about gay life in Colombia. The hook is a nice restuaurant or a guide fee of $10 an hour or open bar on you for a couple hours. By the way the cost of these things is way way below anything in the usa. My open bar tab in medellin which hosted 8 guys pit me back $100 with tip and allowed me to bond and interview 8 different guys. 2 of whom i eventually played with. On my profile i put things like in search of interpreter for a day or in searchnof guide etc. When i apporached i often said liked ur profile you look cool would love to buy you and a friend dinner or drinks. In bars it is much easier than USA necause in my entire 2 weks in colombia i was never turned down when i offered to buy someone a drink! NEVER! I do speak some spamish and i did do rosetta stone to brush up. Better if you do so you ahve a wider pool but if you dont you just have to seek out the guys who speak english. A multi hour session usually ended up costing about $50-$100 and often it was because i offered at the end. The only explcicit money for sex offers came from cubans and they usually asked $25 for a couple hours. Once you meet a couple guys in the scene then you are golden forthe time you are in any city as you then get introduced around. I even was able to meet a guy in bogota because of an intro from a guy in Cali. If you are into PNP there is obviously very high quality and very cheap goodies to be had and any of the guys can arraneg it for you once you are proceeding with the deed. If any of you are gping soon! Give me a pm heads up and i can give u the profiles of some of the guys who you can approach for guding. But i will also say u will not need my names as i came in here cold and was quickly able to establish good connections. Colombia has not yet been corrupted by "us" so the prices are very good and the boys are not yet cynical. The entire experience is gentle dating of older rich men to younger boys. More akin to the boyfriend expeirence than an escort cleint quickie. I did have a wild party night in medelin with 8 guys. 3 of whom i had met and the others were simply friends of the guys. My contribution to the party was the drinks and snacks and favors and i gave the 3 guys i knew $100 each. The rest just came to have a good time. The rest ofthe time i usually hung with ome or 2 guys for a few days. Bought meals, bought movies etc etc and just chilled and the bill was ludicrously low. Ok thats all i can write on the ipad. Any questions or comments let me know. And if anyone is heading there soon i can certainly give a heads up as to who to meet.. Bluboy flipao 1 Quote
