How kind of you to invite us. Will my ticket be first class or business? The latter is fine, but my hotel room must sleep 4 to 6 people comfortably!

Lucky, you obviously haven't been paying much attention to Tomcal's reports from Rio. From the sounds of things, he doesn't sleep at all while in Brazil. My guess would be sleep on the flight down, then again on the return home, with nothing but overnight boy visits in between.

I was amazed to see that we could fly for free on American to Sao Paolo at that time. The frequent flyer ticket is only 40,000 miles round trip!

The problem is that we have 100,000 miles "in the bank" with American for our canceled flight last month. If we fly the same itinerary, we can use the miles without paying the $175 fee to return them to my account.

But, our itinerary was to Rio, not Sao Paolo.

So, I checked flights from PSP to GIG, and the outbound was available at 20,000 miles, but the return was not. Unless we return from Sao Paolo. But, if we take a 40,000 mile itinerary to save the $175, we still have 20,000 miles left, and to get them back we have to pay $175. They don't make it easy!

But, in short, tomcal, we may be joining you that weekend!

UPDATE: In the short time I spent waiting to speak to an agent on AA, and then explaining to him what we wanted to do, the 40,000 miles tickets disappeared!

UPDATE: But, it's still available if we want to fly from LAX!

Oh and be sure to lock up those bags carefully when flying AA :o

I have mentioned this before, but for those newbies that might be going to P.A., the area to stay is the Moinjos de Vento area, very nice upscale part of the city with tree lined streets and many houses converted to boutique shops/restaurants. The Hotels I recommend are the 1)Sheraton, which is great location and very nice but also most expensive, $160./nt 2)Mecure Beverly Hills

3)Mercure Manhatten the two Mercure hotels are within 4 to 6 blocks from the Sheraton and still in the Moinjos neigborhood.

the first two pics are the sheraton and the third the mecure manhatten

Again, Tom, your contributions are immensely appreciated as well as highly helpful!

For me this began with you and a few others in 2002 when I made my first trip to "Mother Brazil!!"

Thank You Axiom!! I remember well the first time we met on the rooftop of the Atlantico Hotel at the great party we had there.

Tomcal,

Want to join you and Oz and Lucky for my Birthday but the airfares are ridiculous. Cheaper to fly to Thailand or 2 trips to Prague. $1600 from Atlanta whether I go through Rio or Sao Paulo. Lot of money for a 4000 mile flight.

Will keep looking or a low mileage award or I'll Have to be satisfied with Colombia and Thailand.

Out of curiosity which of the two Mecure Hotels is the better location?

It's a close call. The Manhatten is two blocks closer to the Sheraton and the small mall and food court it is attached to as well as the large park, so slightly more convienent. As far as facilities both are close, they are suite type rooms with a living room/kitchenette and separate bedroom, at least in the ones I have stayed in. I prefer the manhatten, but my friend who goes there with me frequently likes the Beverly Hills. Usually the BH is cheaper by about $30R a night and the rooms are very similiar.

It would be great if you could join us. Has Oz confirmed already?

We got free tix on AA for 40,000 miles each. Such a bargain, I know.

Sorry I won't be able to join you guys this month. But FYI, I'll be in rio this July (their "winter") for 2 weeks and plan on taking a winter trip to Porto Alegre. I did it last year and had a blast. It'd be great if Tomcal or other members could make a trip down there. Have fun!

strafe, I will be down in Rio June 8th to the 17th so will miss you by a couple weeks! Remember that P.A. can get pretty chilly in July with nights in the low 40's so it's best to bring two boys back to sleep with you each night!!

Tom, you are too funny. I was actually there last August, so I'm aware of how cold it can get. I was actually advised by Roy, owner of the Mezzaninu sauna, to never bring any of the boys back to my hotel room, so I never did it. Maybe I should change that practice now, based on your recommendation?

P.S. It sucks (not in the good way) that I won't be able to finally meet you down in POA!

"...I was actually advised by Roy, owner of the Mezzaninu sauna, to never bring any of the boys back to my hotel room, so I never did it."

Roy is great and gives good advise. I have several...well actually about 6 guys that I do overnights with there!

I have been bring guys back to the hotel for the past 5 years or so there and haven't ever had a problem(same with Rio) but you need to take the necessary precautions, use the room safe, don't leave them alone..even to shower, leave the bathroom door open so you can see if they start going thru your stuff. I have never caught one doing that, but several friends have had it happen to them in Rio. Both my good friend and I bring guys back every night when we are there both from the saunas and from Bar Mix and Indesretus the two hustler bars and it is better to use your hotel room than the "space" provided at those establishments!

Good to know. Thanks. I may indeed cross that bridge this summer and take your advice. Unfortunately, I was never able to find some of the guys you'd recommended to me last year, like the German construction worker who frequents the bars or the cousins who work the saunas, including the soccer player. :-( Maybe better luck this July? :clover:

I was just online with the cousins tonight and will be seeing them next week but neither of them work in the sauna anymore. You can find the construction worker on Friday nights at Bar Mixx he usually shows up around 11:00

I went to Bar Mixx all 3 nights I was there last August, but unfortunately never saw the construction worker. Since the cousins don't do the saunas anymore, I guess that explains why I didn't see them either. Do they go to either Bar Mixx or Indescretus, or are they only available to former paramours/clients like yourself? Lucky dog, you! ;)
