Members Lucky Posted October 8, 2011 Members Posted October 8, 2011 Well, of course He did! He created the world, so all that follows is from the Divine Creator. Why the LA Times thinks this is news escapes me. We should thank God for not opening any doors lately for Sarah Palin to crawl through. Here's the Times story on the Republicans favorite candidate: It isn't surprising that Mitt Romney played the "American exceptionalism" card in his first major foreign-policy address. What was startling, given Romney's even temper and moderate leanings, was that he credited God for that exceptionalism. "This century must be an American century," Romney said. "In an American century, America has the strongest economy and the strongest military in the world. God did not create this country to be a nation of followers." This takes the invocation of the Deity a step further than George W. Bush's much-criticized 2003 State of the Union address, in which he said, "The liberty we prize is not America's gift to the world; it is God's gift to humanity." Bush's line is actually anti-chauvinistic, whereas Romney is claiming a divine blessing for his assertion that "We're No. 1." But that makes sense. God is an American, isn't he? Members TampaYankee Posted October 8, 2011 Members Posted October 8, 2011 As a former Republican, it is sad to see the GOP to have sunk to a collection of rightwing kooks, nuts and rank opportunists who flip and flop to the flavor of the month. These types were isolated in the past to the John Brich Society and other radical wingnut groups. To be fair, there are some dedicated conservatives just happy to see the clock rolled back to the 20's with respect to regulations, labor laws and safety net benefits. The irony is that their policies combined with Wall St greed led us to calamitous collpase in this last decade which they portray as the good old days of sane policy. They push more of the same. The electorate, unhappy that Obama has not succeeded in pulling us out of the ditch yet, want something different. However, the only thing being offered by this collection of wing-nuts is the failed policies of the past, one-upped by the dismantalling of the economic, working and saftey net benefits achieved for the middle class, the elderly, and the young. We saw the outcome of those who voted their unhappiness in 2010. It worked especially well for those in Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan and Florida where the got change they did not bargain for. Will we do it again? If there is a God then I hope Romney or one of the other dwarf kooks is NOT his plan for America -- certainly at least not their espoused policies. Quote

Turn about is fair play. Quote

Turn about is fair play. That goes a little far for me. I believe they were more than content to just help their Wall St friends to rob America. When the fraud was exposed by the Lehman and Bear Stearns failures every Banker said "Who Me? No, it's the other guy." Republicans said " Let the bastards fail." Thus taking the rest of the economy down to the basement where they could proceed with the complete dismantling of government and the New Deal, which has been their goal all along since the 90s and still is. Guest hitoallusa Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Well I think a lot of players are involved in causing the crisis. The government played a major role but the main street has not been so innocent either. I think it was a systemic problem involving many parties. We need a new society and something better than what we call as democracy. I hope more evolved democracy emerge soon. I want to live to see that. Quote
