Guest lurkerspeaks Posted October 6, 2011 Share Posted October 6, 2011 according to the bottom of the webpage, in the last 60 minutes, there have been 104 users on the forum...only 6 registered and logged in users, and 98 unlogged in lurkers/visitors.. more people than normal.. just not many posting.. However if you want people to respond then you have to put up incendiary comments that is likely to cause a conflict..like how some of the gay gossip sites do to generate traffic. That includes (but is not limited to) character assassinations, starting false rumors, and many other things. So you have the "nice" way of generating comments or you have the "not so nice" way. Although I login and click the box that says "Keep me logged in for two weeks," when I leave the site and come back, I am apparently no longer logged in. People keep asking "why aren't there more folks contributing"? I believe that's precisely the reason. I too am logged out every time I visit the site, I'll see a comment I want to reply to, then I'll realize I have to log in again to add my 2 cents and I'll think, "I'll do it later", and off I go to the next site on my daily visit list. All the other forums remember me indefinitely, the cookies refresh themselves every time I visit. There's no reason not to. It's like a friend who asks you "what was your name again"? every time you get together, kind of gets to be not worth it. I have spoken to the programmers to work on this but they can't keep you logged into main site if you shut off your browser. I keep my Firefox open and I never have to log into the site to access the forums. But, when I restart Firefox, I do. When I go to the forums and am not logged in, I click log in at the top and it is less than 2 seconds and I am logged into the site and the forums. If you are on the forums and hit log in, it takes you to log in page and my name and passwords are saved and I click enter. I guess I have never understood why people have an issue with this. In any case, I am aware that many do not want to stay logged in to avoid clicking on log in each time and have asked the programmers to see if they can find a solution. I know that there is encryption and everything but there is always a small chance/. the other reason I don't like being logged in is because everybody can see what postings i was recently looking at ...I know..I know..there are other ways to find that out too but at least Im not making it easy. anyway Im a very private individual about certain things and so I usually am overly cautious. ill tell you a short story. there was this lady counselor that I saw once and she calls me one day and asks me to come in to see her. So I go to her office and she says that her card has started having unauthorized charges on it and wanted to know what to do. I was like CANCEL IT! NOW! and report all the other ones as stolen as well. She was like, "Really?" and I said "Seriously? Do you know what people are doing with your information right now if they can make credit card purchases?" the internet is an amazing wonder but there are lots of dangers that lurk about....always remember that. gc Likewise.
