Looking at Orbitz and found what appear to be some nice hotels that have great rates in the Silom district. Does anyone know/have any first hand experience with any of these?

1) Sathorn Grace Serviced Residences

2) I Residence Hotel Sathorn

3) Bandara Suites Silom?

Also, I was told there is a shuttle/bus of some sort to get from Bangkok to Pattaya. Where is this caught? anyone know the price? any other details? thanks

I don't know the places you mentioned.

But, there is a bus from the main bus depot to Pattaya that leaves daily for 129 baht. There is also a shuttle van that picks you up at hotel and drops you in Pattaya (with a stop at airport in between) for around 350 per person. I prefer the bus.

Sathorn Grace no personal experience but the location is out of the way for the Gay scene and very hard to find if taking a taxi at night. Also very expensive internet

Residence Inn has enough bad comments on various travel sites that I would stay away because of cleanliness etc.

Bandera Suites is in a location I have stayed many times. The location is good but I seem to remember reading something about them discouraging guests but don't remember where.

I find it hard to believe that rates would be appreciably better at Bandera then Saladaeng Colonade and IMHO Colonnade is far superior because of location and definitely no problems with guests and breakfast and internet are included.

You might want to check out Ballys Silom which is in the middle of the night life and gets pretty decent reviews and prices.

Good advice from guys who know the territory.

I appreciate all the advice, especially first hand advice. Welcome any more from other posters as well. I mentioned those three hotels because I found them on orbitz, and they were all VERY low priced at around 40$ USD per night. As I think more about it, it might be better for my first trip to Thailand (especially considering the fact that I will be alone and not know the area) to seriously consider the Tartawan (or whatever the correct name is) because it is right in the gay area and has gotten mostly favorable reviews from fellow posters.. Pay a little more than I had originally hoped but the trade out is the convenience/location.. Kinda like the Guv in Montreal--not the greatest hotel, but the location can't be beat...

Maybe a good choice for first time visitor. Perfect location. Only negative is no safes in the rooms. Best rates should be at Agoda. Rooms are comparable or better then that Hotel everyone stays at in Rio and at 1/2 the price.

now to figure out game plan once there.....Tentatively thinking about arriving Friday morning, then departing the following Thursday....Should I do Friday and Saturday in Bangkok, Sunday and Monday in Pattaya, then Tues and Wed back in Bangkok? What is the trip like between the two cities? Is it a scenic trip where you get to see some nice countryside settings? or is it a boring ride? I just want to make the most of the time I have there.

The Weekend market is a must see, in my opinion, and that would keep you in Bangkok at least a Saturday or a Sunday. Going to Pattaya on a weekday means you will avoid the weekend tourist crowd and perhaps save on a hotel rate. The boys will still be there.

Why not stay the following weekend as well? That's a pretty short trip for such long flights.

This is what I would choose if I had the short trip: Friday and Saturday in Bangkok, Sunday and Monday in Pattaya, then Tues and Wed back in Bangkok?

On the other hand, if you went to Pattaya on Tuesday and Wednesday, you could take the taxi from Pattaya right to the airport in Bangkok, thus saving you one taxi fare.

Too much traveling unless you fall in love in BKK. No reason to return. Spend Friday Saturday and Sunday in BKK and then the next 3 nights in Pattaya. The trip to the airport is only 35 minutes longer from Pattaya then BKK. Keep in mind everything in Pattaya is cheaper then BKK so more boys for less money to end your trip . LOL Of course if your flight is early on Thursday , you will have to take a car to the airport but only about $40.

The ride between BKK and Pattaya is pretty boring.

I wish I could stay longer, but I can only stretch my one week vacation into 9 days...Since it takes 2 days to get there, and one day to get back, that leaves 6 nights in Thailand. As of now, I am leaning towards Thai Air,which will leave LAX just after midnite on Wednesday morning, and then arrives at 630am on Friday morning in BKK...so, as long as I get some rest on the plane, I will have a full day on Friday in Thailand. Then on departure day, I would leave in the afternoon on Thursday, and when I get back to LAX it would be basically the same time/same day. That is that bad thing, I will have to be back to work the very next day...

Should I skip Pattaya on this visit and just stay in BKK for all 6 nights?

You should definitely do both. The trip between them is easy and really they are completely different. Bangkok a world Class city with all that they offer and Pattaya a beachside community that came into being and continues to exist as a Sex destination.

Bangkok has many things to visit such as Temples, The Palace, Weekend Market, Fabulous Malls with all that eye candy. It has some good massage parlors and GoGo Bars. A good SEX Show at Boys Bangkok and plenty of boys.

Pattaya is for SEX , plain and simple. You can visit the Gay beach but other then that no sightseeing is necessary. Enjoy the boys in the Bars and the Beach and on Gayromeo and then head to the airport with the only thing on your mind being when you can return?
