All of her assets have been frozen by the court for more than two years now and the court has said they will not unfreeze them until she can demonstrate that she's mentally stable enough to work consistently and at her last hearing the court cited her reluctance to perform in public and refusal to attend award shows as evidence she is not responsible enough to make her own financial decisions. Therefore, she had to know that if she didn't turn up for MTV giving her a lifetime achievement award it would have fucked her legally. So, no, she doesn't have a choice and more likely than not had no idea what was going to happen (that tweet was probably posted by her publicist.) It's sort of unbelievable in this day and age that a court can take away the right of a grown mother of two to make her own financial decisions, but it's exactly what they did. The situation Britney is in is very close to slavery. It's like the system decided she was worth too much money to too many people to be allowed to retire (which is pretty much what she wanted to do.)
