Members Lucky Posted August 26, 2011 Members Posted August 26, 2011 Remember those boyhood days when August meant that school was right around the corner? If you were bored, that was good news. But August for me now means super hot weather. For 4 years we went to Rio to avoid the heat. This year we were scheduled to leave last Tuesday, but canceled due to the high Rio hotel prices. Good thing too since I went to the dentist on Tuesday and got the news that I needed $3000 in repairs. But that still leaves the heat. It was 116 Wednesday and 115 yesterday. I walked the dogs at 5 am and it was 93. And don' tell me "it's a dry heat" as August is our most humid month. 20% at 5 a.m. So I stay in during the day and read. Yesterday I was fortunate to watch the Yankees hit 3 grand slams to beat the A's 20-9. But Irene will probably cancel this weekend's games. So, yes, we have perfect weather here in Riverside County in March and April. But next year, should I still be alive, I have to go somewhere cooler! Thanks for letting me vent. Maybe today we will have 101 posts! Unless Irene knocks out the computers on the East Coast...Irene, of course, is God's wrath against the Tea Party... Quote

I supposed you would rather be in New York, where everything closes down over a little earthquake, just before preparations for a massive hurricane? Here in Riverside county, people start building arks when they see a dark cloud, and yawn when the earth rumbles but the house doesn't collapse. It's all a matter of perspective. Quote

Members RA1 Posted August 26, 2011 Members Posted August 26, 2011 I am not saying it is not hot in PSP but 20% humidity hereabouts is considered ultra low humidity, something we don't see unless it is below freezing. We consider low humidity 50% or so. When it is 95 degrees with 80% humidity, it is pretty warm. However, I certainly understand your desire to be elsewhere for whatever reason. Best regards, RA1 Quote

Members RA1 Posted August 27, 2011 Members Posted August 27, 2011 Thanks. I try to enjoy the weather, the people, the scenery and whatever else may be available because I won't be there very long. I have been where it was -30F and +115F with snow, rain, wind, hail and every thing else and tried to enjoy it but, also, tried to keep going because going is my job. When you land somewhere and the locals are wearing Mukluks which provide 6 or more inches of insulation between their feet and the snow and you are wearing tennis shoes, it does occur to keep going because you are not dressed for the weather. Best regards, RA1 Well, this morning it was 57% humidity at 5 a.m. The air was so thick- not a drop of a breeze. On the other hand, we didn't have a hurricane to deal with! Quote
Members RA1 Posted August 28, 2011 Members Posted August 28, 2011 Right this minute the humidity is 57% and 85 degrees. VERY pleasant. The forecast is for about 90 degrees for the high today with no rain and, being used to summer time in MEM, that is very OK. Irene was very threatening for many but, like you, it was no threat to MEM. She appears to be ALMOST only a memory now. Those without power and dealing with a flood undoubtedly think otherwise and my sympathy is with them. Best regards, RA1 Quote
Guest Ace Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 As a born& raised New Yorker,I would like to add that I don't miss the 100 degree weather coupled with the 100% humidity AT ALL! ( I actually just returned from the East Coast, & found the "feel" of the humidity almost stifling... I'll be heading from Vegas (where the average has been about 106) to Palm Springs next week....August in "the devil's anus" has NEVER been a problem for me..(GRANTED, I'm usually naked, either working an Awesome August event, or hanging at Helios!).
