Guest gcursor Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 WHERE WOULD YOU GO IF you were given the chance to go ANYWHERE in the world for one week all-expenses paid with the only stipulation being (there's always a catch, isn't there?) that you have NEVER been there before? I'll start...I've always wanted to go to Tibet and visit the monk temples. Gcursor Quote
Guest simon Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 OK, that was a bit too spontaneous. I'd say, after a moment of non-sexual impulse: The Czech Republic. Quote
Members RA1 Posted July 18, 2011 Members Posted July 18, 2011 Wow, my list is endless. Do I have to count travel time to/from as part of the week? Antarctica. But, not now. It is winter there now. Best regards, RA1 Quote
Members MsGuy Posted July 18, 2011 Members Posted July 18, 2011 Thailand, if for no other reason than to take a tour of the louche side of Bankok under OZ's expert tutelage. Quote
Guest lurkerspeaks Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 As someone who has done relatively little international traveling, I have a pretty long list.. In no specific order (as long as it is ALL espenses paid), Thailand, Budapest, Barcelona, Paris, Venice, Athens, Egypt (for the pyramids, etc, not for sex), really, pretty much any major city in Europe. caeron Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Tokyo is boring, trust me I lived there, but there are some neat places in Japan. It may be less boring now, it's been a couple of decades since I lived there, but the trains used to shut down at midnight, so night life was limited. There isn't much history left. The allies firebombed it all into rubble. It is a city of concrete. Lots and lots of grey. Start with Kyoto, the ancient capitol. For myself, pretty much everywhere I haven't been. But Rio would be high on the list thanks to this forum! Quote
Members Lucky Posted July 18, 2011 Members Posted July 18, 2011 Caeron and I are in complete agreement on Tokyo. I have been there 3 times and not enjoyed it once. The Tokyo Tower is ugly, the streets are crowded, albeit clean. The Japanese are very racist* and will ignore you completely unless you are spending money, then they bow and put your purchase in pretty bags. You can walk down the street in Tokyo and not one Japanese person will make eye contact with you. It's as if you do not exist. *E.G.: Westerners are not allowed in gay bars or bathhouses. They have bars specifically for westerners, and a few Japanese might come in. Even in Thailand's Patpong district, one whole street is devoted to Japanese customers and westerners are not welcome. Members Lucky Posted July 18, 2011 Members Posted July 18, 2011 You guys can sit and make your plans, but after months of planning, mine are made. Now I am going to sit back on the plane, close my eyes, and enjoy the ride to my destination. Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 They can be a bit reserved but actually they are polite and pleasant people from my experience. Once you get to know them you will see that they are very kind and caring people. I have never been to a gay bar or bath houses in Japan. Quote
Guest CharliePS Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 South Africa, or all the national parks in Alaska, or China (I've been to Hong Kong, but when it was still under British rule). As you can tell, my munificent benefactor would not have to pay any expenses for local escorts. Quote

I've been to both, and I'd suggest that the Japanese are less racist than having all having a huge fear of being embarrassed. They know how to treat each other, but they don't really know what to do with you, so they pretend you don't exist. I speak (well I did then anyway, hugely rusty these days) Japanese which smoothed things a great deal, but I learned over time that there were bars for foreigners and even if I spoke Japanese, it was best if I went where people wanted to meet me, rather than to places where they just got uncomfortable. Members Lucky Posted July 19, 2011 Members Posted July 19, 2011 Caeron, I am surprised that you find Tokyo boring if you speak the language. For me, when I meet the locals is when places become more interesting. It has been some time since I was in Tokyo, and perhaps they allow westerners into the gay bath houses now, but they did not when I was there. Quote

Guest EXPAT Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I'm also not a fan of Tokyo. I've been a number of times and it is my least favorite place and THE MOST expensive on the planet. But if I could go anywhere now that I haven't been would be New Zealand. I've been to 89 countries and New Zealand is not one of them. I have a couple of friends that live in Aukland and I would love to rent a camper and do a country-wide driving tour. Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted July 19, 2011 Members Posted July 19, 2011 I appreciate all the discourse on Tokyo. The insights are very interesting. I know the trip would much more interesting if I spoke the language. I also know there are several other places I would go for conventional sightseeing. However, I do like Asian men and at the top of the list are Japanese. I have been intrigued over the last decade by them and by the attitudes and mores surrounding sexual aspects of their culture. It has the potential to be a great opportunity to experience for a week. I know I should sound more high minded in my selection but the truth is that I can get a lot of foreign culture and vistas through books, newspapers and online. I can't get the on-the-street cultural aspects, and experience the guys online. List this as an itch that needs to be scratched. Quote

However, it is easy enough to make "more" friends there. As you no doubt know the geography is interesting, the climate island and pleasant and the scenery quite alluring. Getting about in a caravan would make for quite an interesting holiday. Best regards, RA1 Quote

I have been to Tokyo a few times, and I would have to say that it is the least interesting place in Japan, but there is no reason to stay there very long when there is so much to see in the rest of the country. Osaka or Kyoto is just as convenient as a base of operations, and cities like Hiroshima and Fukuoka are friendlier than Tokyo. Smaller places like Takayama and Nara are charming, and Nikko is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. Quote

Members Lucky Posted July 19, 2011 Members Posted July 19, 2011 Eat Kandy during the Festival of the Tooth? That's a new one on me. The closest thing we have here to that is Halloween. I have read that Sri Lanka is becoming the new pedophile haven. Hopefully that is not true. Quote

Well, if you want Japanese men, then I would have to agree Tokyo is the best place, being such a huge city. And as others suggested, Nara, Kyoto, Nikko and other places are all very cool. Personally, I find Korean and Chinese men much hotter! Quote
