Guest EXPAT
I had a minor melt down and got into a verbal argument with the security at Micky's in West Hollywood on Wednesday night. Wednesday night is one of the best nights to go to Micky's for their dancers. They generally have 15 - 20 dancers every Wednesday and it's a fun night. If I go in I usually take an elderly gentleman friend of mine who is 82 because he enjoys it so much and he can't drive at night anymore. So around 9:30 - 9:45 security starts going around the bar to remove all of the bar stools/chairs in an effort to allow more people up to the bar to get drinks. Basically they want it to be a standup bar from that point on unless you are sitting at a table ordering food. But my 82 year old friend can't stand for very long and I kept telling security that he's 82 and needs a chair but they kept coming so I finally lost it and asked for a manager but they only sent over the manager of the security guards. I got my way but the evening was ruined because I can't get past this stupidity. We are in a service economy that doesn't know how to provide service. What's interesting is that Micky's rarely gets jammed until midnight or later and we are usually long gone by then. I know that the managers want to focus only on their 20 something crowd but this behavior drives me nuts. And unfortunately a lot of bars do this around Weho. It's very annoying. Members TampaYankee
I feel your outrage. Unfortunately, most clubs don't look past the bottom line. I know that has to take precedence but it seems only obvious that some accommodation is appropriate on occasion. Also employees do not like to make such exceptions on their own and are reluctant to bother the boss about it. After all it is just one customer they will lose. Not an excuse, just an explanation. I'm glad the situation was finally disposed of favorably. Ultimately, that is to their credit.
Members marcanthony
maybe it's a stereotype... but I have rarely found a security employee at any gay venue (strip club, dance club, bar, etc etc) to have any focus whatsoever on customer service or public relations. Being a humorless prick is part of the job description when they put out ads. On the other hand, since you and your friend tend to be "regulars", make friends with one or two of your particularly favorite bar staff with conversation and appropriate tips. They are in-tuned with the customer service angle. Next time they want to take your chairs away, simply ask you favorite bartender, "Can you please help us explain to security that XXX needs his chair, please?" Guest gcursor
I agree..that was very sad to have happen and an intolerable situation. I'm in a completely different state than you and thank god the bars I go to here don't pull that kind of crap because I would just stop going. I agree very much with the other poster who said to get to know some of the staff on a first name basis. Establish that you're a big tipper and when all else fails, give them a blow job p.s. just kidding about the last part... Gcursor
Members Lucky
I once took a friend to a bathhouse in LA. They refused him entry as they said he was too old. He was 46.
