Guest hitoallusa Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Well I do think I did write my previous post not so clearly. I apologize for that. My point is that people should be educated in hacking so they can protect themselves. What people at News of the world used is not a sophisticated method and it could have been prevented. It's unfortunate that a lot of people are not educated enough about hacking so they are not able to protect themselves and left to fear unnecessarily. Most importantly, people who want to learn about hacking don't have a place to learn it legitimately and properly. They have no choice to rely on border line criminals and pay them enormous fee to protect themselves from other hackers. This all could be solved if people are educated properly and more people can protect themselves from hackers. Maybe a college course should be set up in the future. We out cry that these hackers should be punished. I agree but here is what we are doing. Leaving your front door wide open with a bar of gold sitting in your living room unattended. Hackers want us to stay that way but we can fight back by educating themselves. That's why I quoted Thomas More. Quote
Members manticore Posted July 20, 2011 Members Posted July 20, 2011 He may be having a rough time but I think his Downfall is far from happening. Do you like the show Glee? Owned by Murdoch's News Corp. No. Do you like American Idol? No. Did you enjoy the Blockbuster Movie Avatar? No. (sorry, couldn't resist) Quote
Guest gcursor Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I have been watching the "grilling" of Murdoch and all I can say is: Who wants extra crispy and who wants fried? Quote
Guest Allessio77 Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Let's face it...Murdock is the worst disaster for Journalism in our lifetime. Using a News channel for political propaganda, dispensing with facts, and using his newspapers for pure sleaze and sensationalism takes down journalism to little more than a joke. Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 In China journalists receive money for just attending a news conference and then they ask more money if a favorable article is requested according to BBC. And today a major Chinese news paper attacked Murdoch and the western society. I really can't believe it. Where is the world heading toward to? Should I just repent my sins and live a new life since the end of the world is imminent? Quote
Members JKane Posted July 25, 2011 Members Posted July 25, 2011 He may be having a rough time but I think his Downfall is far from happening. Do you like the show Glee? Owned by Murdoch's News Corp. Do you like American Idol? Yep Murdoch owns it too. Did you enjoy the Blockbuster Movie Avatar? Guess what, Yep another Rupert Murdoch property. 20 Century Fox, Fox entertainment TV network and channels, British, Australian and American Newspapers including the Wall Street Journal, Fox News and the major stockholder in Britian's SKY News, even if he is now pulling back from complete ownership. His media holdings are so vast and huge, I think it will be hard to hold him personally accountable for what happens at each property he holds, especially each article each of his papers runs and how they got that info. So we may Glee for the singing Glee kids on his TV show but I think we shall not be Gleeing about his downfall anytime soon. It's actually far worse than this list because it's often a huge chunk of the media outlets available in an area. Direct TV. In addition to the Fox network, Local O&O Fox broadcast stations and the especially (even by local news standards) sensational, shallow and wrong-headed local news they produce. Satellite TV providers in Europe too. Several of the newspapers in several cities. Maybe some radio? The FCC and antitrust should have NEVER allowed him to own so much, he's been for a long time the very example of why these regulations USED to exist. Quote
TotallyOz Posted July 25, 2011 Author Posted July 25, 2011 The FCC and antitrust should have NEVER allowed him to own so much, he's been for a long time the very example of why these regulations USED to exist. I totally agree and he is the last of the media barons. I think this will really disrupt his company and reduce his power a great deal. I hate all monopolies. Expect with escorts in my hotel when I am in their city. That is the only monopoly I see worth fighting for. Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 But someone else's power might get strong gradually since people who support the media baron still exist and they need someone to do their bidding and protect their interests. Murdoch himself is yes a great baron but I don't think we can ignore people around him who have wanted him to be strong in the first place. Murdoch is successful not just because he is brilliant but he has been able to see the very need of those around him. They might simply abandon Murdoch but their need and interests will not suddenly disappear with his fall. They will eventually find someone or something else that can carry on their work. Something comparable but not so noticeable since they don't want to make the same mistake again. I totally agree and he is the last of the media barons. I think this will really disrupt his company and reduce his power a great deal.] Quote
Guest zipperzone Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Regardless of what the final outcome is...... the thing that I'm breathlessly waiting for is the arrest of that slime bucket PIERS MORGAN. God I can't stand the sight or sound of him. He's pretty slippery so pinning anything on him won't be easy and CNN is more or less obliged to stick up for him - you won't find Anderson doing a story on him anytime soon. By I can wait in hope. Members JKane Posted July 30, 2011 Members Posted July 30, 2011 An editorial cartoon appearing in the Rupert Murdoch-owned Times of London. You know, that manages to be even more offensive that deleting messages off a murder victims' voicemail so you can hear more distraught calls... Well done Murdock! Quote
Members MsGuy Posted July 30, 2011 Members Posted July 30, 2011 An editorial cartoon appearing in the Rupert Murdoch-owned Times of London. ... Well done Murdock! Jesus, what can you say to something like that? ---- FWIW, The WSJ normaly inserts a full disclosure sentence in news stories covering its Murdock sister properties but I've yet to see one in the stories following the hacking scandal in England.
