Suspension Almost Over

It was worse in the days of FFF when people competed, it seemed to me, to say hateful things under the guise of being clever. Now, it seems to ebb and flow, but still is there. I've been on the internet for nearly 30 years at this point, and the anonymous bitching no longer appeals.

I enjoyed being 'arch' as my English friends would say in my 20s. These days, not so much.

That's all well and good, but what about those of us who've spent years working our way up the henchman ranks? :ninja: If arching is passe, what do we have to show for all our effort?

Well, those boots are fabulous and oh so butch, and the face mask will get you into bars on S&M night. Plus now you get to write your tell all:

"My Years Under Lex Luthor: What The Bald Man Did to Me"

Or

"Why the Riddler Riddled"

To be honest, I (blush) henched mostly for the Monarch. I know, I know, it's my own fault, but you lose your retirement credit if you switch villains in mid-career. Doubt there's much of a paying audience for that idiot's embarrassing secrets.

Thanks for the compliments on my costume though. B) You really think the bears will dig my mask?

I can't speak for anybody else but I thought you were done using the thread and besides which, I picked this up in the bargain bin at the Salvation Army marked 1/2 off

but you can have your thread back now.

I think my thread has been hijacked!

"Well, when I went to New York to see some Broadway and off-Broadway shows, I posted about them here and no one responded. And I do miss the theater discussions over at Daddy's. After all, I started the theater forum there.

So I made a decision to post in that forum and put my toe in the water there."

You have done a great job here, but even if your efforts were less impressive, I see no reason why you can not post on both sites. I have read your theater comments on Daddy's site & believe you can a lot on all kinds of entertainment matters to those discussions on Daddy's. You have been very honest about what has occurred over the past twelve-thirteen months. That means someone to me & I hope everyone else who posts here.

I just don't understand why Daddy seems almost determined to push people away from his site. If forums bother him and don't make him any money then he should just get rid of the forums. If the forums do work for him he should just stand back and let them be.

I hope you do not believe that the man does not make any money from his site. All the advertisements on the review section pay him handsomely.

The claim of poverty by forum owners was started years ago by Hooboy. Hooboy also begged for money from members of his site. He did his begging while he was touring around the world with his boyfriend and staying in luxurious hotels and living a high life style. I suppose it is possible that Hooboy lost money from his site and lived his lifestyle using his own funds. I guess we will never know for sure which scenario is correct.

They should. But, as they say, there is a sucker born every minute.

Hey, can I get someone to pay my way to the Black and Blue weekend this year?

I heard that Hooboy made almost $200,000 a year from his site. Is that true?

Did you ever watch Hee Haw? There was one group that had the saying, "I don't go around repeating gossip, so you better sit tight and listen close the first time."

I think there is a tread here that discussed it before. Perhaps it has been a while back, but your numbers seem to be very realistic. Hooboy had a monopoly on the market. Now, all the sites are doing what he did including Rentboy and Men4Rent although only our site has fully legit reviews.

HooBoy became quite an entrepreneur after a false start. In the beginning he used an internet host that charged by the traffic throughput. I don't know if he failed to appreciate the consequences of that but the site developed more traffic than he anticipated. Some time down the road the traffic had grown and the host presented him with a bill of $25k for one month. Needless to say, he was astonished and totally unable to meet that payment. He was funding the site out of pocket and his day job at that time, advertising support had not yet materialized.

He announced that the site would have to close unless he found a provider that he could afford and started asking for contributions to help pay off the debt and for lawyer or both. He managed to switch to an affordable alternative but continued to struggle with the pay off. That is history.

He learned the ropes to the advertising game and he sold escort sponsorships on the site. A devoted member could pay for a photo to be displayed for an escort in the escort index by location. At that time the index had no photos, only the review had a photo. He continued seeking contributions too as the site was still mostly supported out of his pocket.

As the site got more and more traffic and more and more advertisers he eventually quit his day job to devote 100% of his time to the site. It is obvious the income stream had grown considerably by then.

He got a cut of the TLA video sales on his site. He also got a cut of all travel reservations made on his site. Then there were the escort adds he sold for a short time for $600/mo although they were few in number.

As an aside, one day I was talking with HB on the phone and he was beside himself with glee telling me of a great deal he got on a NYC hotel on Priceline. I had never used it before but he spoke glowingly of it based on this deal. I started using PL and got tens of deals on Hotels in the US and Canada in the following years.

A few months after that phone call a poster inquired about hotel reservations in his forums. I mentioned the great PL deals I had gotten based on HB's recommendation. He eventually posted in that thread that great deals could be had at the travel agency link on his site. In those intervening months he had entered into an agreement with an online travel agency (Hotels.com??) that he funneled traffic to them for a cut. He had his own travel site/pages, HooBoy's Travel Agency, but when you got in deeper you saw the page layout was one of the existing agencies but with a HB Travel Banner at the top. He also qualified as a Travel Agent and got industry benefits including cut-rate travel for himself.

I do not recall him ever mentioning after that link appeared the good deals that PL offered. He often touted his travel link. I don't fault him for that. He was a businessman too and depended on that site for a living. He never took the DONATE link down. He didn't solicit as actively as he did in his desperate days but it was there and he did travel all the time and stay in classy hotels with BFs and had a home base in Amsterdam.

He lived a good life after some lean start up years. I congratulate him on that success and on the service he provided to the community he formed.

I agree. When a person does something innovative, one deserves a reward. Good job Hooboy! RIP.

Why do you need to PAY to have somebody punch you?

gcursor, I was so shocked that a man of my history on the boards would still be expected to provide written materials on the proposed Senior Escort's Retirement Home. Tell you what, I may make you in charge of determining which cocks are too top heavy and need athletic support. A $50,000 donation by tomorrow could guarantee that slot!
