Rio in May

Looks like I will be back in Rio in May... Set to arrive on Wed May 11, and departing on Tues May 17.. Airfare is booked.. hotel is not. I found what appears to be a great apartment rental. I asked Drey from gaytravelbrazil, if he could get one of his "boys" to go check the apartment out for me. I am waiting to hear back.. It is a two bedroom, one bath apartment, near the Copacabana palace. It is renting for $100 US per day.. http://rio.en.craigslist.org/vac/2221773643.html

It looks like I will be arriving just in time to share one night with the "group" which departs on that Thursday.. Anyone else thinking about making it around that time?

The pics of the apartment look great. Wonder what the visitors' policy is like since it is an apartment? A friend of mine rented an apartment in 2006 or 2007 and had difficulty receiving "boys." In fact, the management gave him so much hell that he decided to leave after a while. I think it was the doormen who caused the mess, not my friend and his guests!

The other apartment was owned by a gay man; thus he had NO difficulty in receiving/having guests, and this friend rented an apartment from this man on three different years.

<So, if you manage to rent this particular apartment, I'd like to know your outcome because my friend and I plan to rent an apartment for two when we're in Rio during October. I have a few connections in "My Favorites" -- but if I were to go to try to find for you, I'd lose my spot on the computer, I think! >

Thanks for the input, Axiom.. I am awaiting the report back from Drey's Rio guide.. The apartment does look great in the pictures, but we all know that pictures of apartments (as well as pictures of escorts) can be misleading, old, or just flat out lies. And the rate of $100 US for a two bedroom apartment is cheaper than one room at the Atlantico. I will also be traveling with a friend, so for us to split the apartment cost instead of renting two separate rooms at the Atlantico will afford us quite a bit more "boy" money...I am keeping my fingers crossed.. and I will most definitely share my findings with the group here.

I just sent you a private, but if for some reason it did not take--check out www.rioapartmentrental.com. ...great apartments and reasonably priced during "low season." Also, the apartments have an "open guest" policy.

I sent the agency an email expressing my initial interest and alerting them that I might rent one of their properties in October for two individuals. I liked their prices and the pics of the apartments.

For the past three times that I've traveled to Buenos Aires, I've viewed the apartments on the website; then I wrote to inquire. All three of my different apartments have been superb based on what was posted as well as what the agents revealed to me via email.

All were located in upscale Recoleta and were wonderfully appointed, quiet and comfortable. My friends and escorts who visited me loved my apartments.

I want the same type of ambience and amenities and open guest policy while I am in Rio de janeiro in October, sharing a 2bd apartment with my good friend.

for anyone following along, I heard from the apartment owner concerning visitors.."they are no problem as long as they are respectful of the neighbors and no loud noise after 10pm."

Drey's associate is supposed to go view the apartment this Wednesday and report back to me about his findings..I will keep everyone (who cares) posted.

Axiom, what leads you to return visits to Buenos Aires when the joys of Rio are right up the street?

I like Buenos Aires myself, having been there twice, but the sex does not compare to Rio.

Lurker, if you find a good apartment, I hope it has spare sheets and towels cuz we all will be joining you!

Lucky, in all honesty--I like the culture there as well as the men and wish to explore further.

In terms of the sexual component, you are correct--one would have hotter times in Rio de janeiro, but I'm spoiled when it comes to being with Chorch and friend/friends and a few other escorts who are there. I desire to experience this again for the third time with Chorch although I've been to the land of the portenios going on 5Xs now.

Because of the above, I plan to return in 2011 for four days only. I also plan to travel to Rio, Porto Alegre, and to Salvador to round out this particular trip. Am in the planning stages presently.... Thanks for the inquiry!

May I add a few observations about Buenos Aires versus Rio de Janeiro.

I've visited Buenos Aires 9x in the last 6 years and I stay for a month each time. I'm making my next trip in May.

Buenos Aires is a great metropolis with good nightlife, tremendous (Spanish-language) theatre, good music and lots of decent restaurants. It's also readily navigable by foreigners and, with a reasonable degree of caution, it's also very safe.

I've only visited Rio de Janeiro once, for a 4day weekend, but it was with an Argentine guy who knows the place well. I found it difficult, yet I speak 5 languages (but not Portuguese) and am used to travelling in Latin America. Rio felt more more unsafe (I like to walk everywhere) and we only ate well in restaurants that were as expensive as London (I enjoy good food and wine). I also felt there was little to do if it rained (tho we had sunny weather).

Now it's true that BA does not offer the same sex-club and sauna activities as Rio. But I'm not geared for multiple quickies in saunas etc.

I admit I'm fussy about the type of guy I like: I want a handsome, muscled young man (sort of an Abercrombie jock) who's presentable in public and great in bed. I enjoy the "boyfriend experience" and I like to spend considerable time with a man and feel there's a connection. I find there are plenty of fit, athletic young Argentines in BA who want to meet and spend time with a fit, older foreigner. I haven't had to hire a lot of the time, but I do take the guys out for dinner and have invited some on trips with me.
