AdamSmith Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 If this should be in the Politics forum, make it so... Quote
Members RA1 Posted February 11, 2011 Members Posted February 11, 2011 It shouldn't be in the political forum but on everyone's refrigerator door (if that were possible). I miss Red Skelton and I definitely miss "old fashioned" patriotism. Best regards, RA1 Quote
AdamSmith Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 I met him once, when he came to my college to give a talk (as such!). He was incredibly gracious. He autographed my copy of (only thing I had on me ) Dante's Inferno. Quote

Guest FourAces Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 A powerful clip. I remember growing up watching Red Skelton but I was pretty young and don't recall this pledge. Watching it gave me a few chills I wish every politician was forced to watch this every morning of their work day. Thanks for posting it Adam. Quote
AdamSmith Posted February 14, 2011 Author Posted February 14, 2011 I wish every politician was forced to watch this every morning of their work day. That's it, isn't it? Ben Franklin's mordant quip after the Declaration of Independence that "We had better hang together or we will certainly hang separately" is no less true today. I am as lefty as they come, but I am absolutely with RA1 in that the posturing and tomfoolery and dishonesty coming from all sides in DC today threaten to be the death of the republic. One can make fine partisan distinctions, but they won't much alter the outcome. Quote
