Guest FourAces
Between my personal visited sites and my blog sites I have about 50 different passwords and several different user names. I cannot be the only one that uses different passwords for each account. I am curious how you guys keep track? I am starting to go crazier than I am trying to keep up as I add new logins. I use the Last Pass browser plugin. The basic version is free, keeps site passwords in sync across all main browser types and will even auto-submit the login forms. The premium version ($1/month) will also sync to smartphones and allow use from any browser without a plugin. I admin several sites, have over 200 active userid/passwords and this has been a lifesaver. They also have a forum here.
Members Lucky
Firefox stores passwords. Click Tools, click Security, and then you will find them.
Guest Anton
Hi FourAces (and all others), Good question. I developed a method to have the same username almost everywhere, but a different password everywhere and at the same time a password I can still easily remember. For the username I choose something of exactly 8 characters. Some websites require a username to be 8 characters or less, other websites want a password to be 8 characters or more. Eight characters is always right and I can have the same username all over. You're lucky, because "FourAces" is exactly 8 characters, the only other thing to worry about is that nobody else had thought of the same username. If I were in your shoes, and if I thought that "FourAces" was likely to be used by someone else, then "fouresac" could be my choice (I swopped "ac" and "es"). Another option could be "secaruof" (simply written backwards). My password is also 8 characters, for the same reason as the username is 8 characters. Although, here I have a base password of 6 characters. In the base password I put at least one capitol and one letter (since some systems require that). If I were in your shoes, my base password could be "P00ker" (please note that there are two "zeroes" there, not two "capitol oh's"). Then I add two letters that I take from the internet-address or the company name. This makes the password different from system to system. It could be the first two letters, the two last letters, the first and the last, or any other choice, but with different websites that I sign-up, I always take the same two positions. Let's say that you always take the first two letters. Your password with MER could be P00kerma. Did I explain this a bit clear? (I hope so.) No matter if I'm on my own computer, with friends, at an internet cafe, or in the business lounge at an airport, I always know which username and password to use. Happy logging-in everybody! Anton (previous from Amsterdam). ps : Now staying in Tampa, FL
Guest FourAces
Hey several good suggestions. I tend to use different browsers so its a pain to remember the password then saving it to the next browser. The LastPass looks interesting and I might give it a try if I can use the one login with each browser and not have to re-enter the info. And Anton your system caught my attention it is interesting though time consuming to go back and change all these passwords. However, going forward it just might work. btw you're right 8 seems to be the magic number. Again thanks all.
