Members Lucky
Perez Images is just about the only game in town for porn in the Palm Springs area. There is a small collection of rentals at the Gaymart, and a small store selling stuff that no one buys, but Perez Images has miles of porn, all second or third rate, but it rents for five dollars a DVD per day. They have the toys and the blow-up dolls, some booths, but, most importantly, they have customers. It's like Grand Central Station at times as the men of the desert try to meet their needs. I don't like the place, so I sit in the parking lot while the bf goes in, and I get a good idea of how many people come and go there. The owners must be fantastically rich. There is not a dime spent on decor, the place is on a street where the average Joe would not go, so the rent must be low. Bottom line- who wants to help invest in some competition? Even if we only took half their business we'd be millionaires in about ten days. Incidentally, for those of you who want to see a real porn museum, go to San Francisco. The Superstar video store there on Castro Street has the largest collection of gay porn you will ever see. Walls and walls of it, plus a back room full of older titles. They have all the new stuff, from all the studios, and you can rent for as low as $1.67 a night. Every taste and fetish seems to be accounted for. Highly recommended! Guest FourAces
Lucky just curious do you know if there is a local law that prohibits adult stores in the city of Palm Springs? If so that might be why the store you mention is doing so well ... no competition anywhere nearby. There is some type of law about adult bookstores in Oklahoma so just over the boarder in Texas there are several large porn shops. They've been there for years but I rarely seen any cars in the parking lot when driving by. A friend and I stopped in one about a year ago looked around it was really dull almost 95% straight and the lights were brighter inside than the sun outside. No booths and just a very blah atmosphere. In the early eighties I used to go to this porn shop all the time in Santa Ana, California. Lots of action and just a fun place in general. Well, as some know I have a very eclectic work background .. I had been a Deputy Probation Officer. I was working juvenile placements and one of the kids on my caseload Father worked at that shop. Sadly I couldn't go back once I found out ... back then in OC could have been suspended or even fired. Two of my favorite adult stores have always been the Pleasure Chest on Santa Monica in WEHO and the Adult Superstore on Tropicana in Las Vegas. Overall, I'm surprised that porn shops still do any business considering what is available online and plenty online for free as well. Members Lucky
I don't think so. Porn is available at Gaymart, and Q Trading, which also has toys. I think the Cathedral City location has the benefit of near confidentiality as your neighbors are unlikely to be in that area.
Members TampaYankee
I cannot believe that any porn store would be doing business like that in this day and age. There is so much porn on the net and you can get anything a store would sell via mail if not download. I suspect they are going for more than the media -- maybe to greet and meet? Members TownsendPLocke
I have had a LOT of fun in that place. It is what it is. I find it to be pretty nice for a booth store
