Prague/Barcelona 2010 Review

I was in Prague and Barcelona this past week. The information on Prague that I wrote last Sept. is still relevant as far as the clubs/bars/costs. (http://www.maleescortreview.com/forum/index.php?/topic/3894-zurich-prague-review/)

The only change was this year we rented a apartment instead of staying in a hotel. The apartment was located on the same street as our previous hotel as well as Monty’s bar and Club Temple. It was a large two bedroom Apt with kitchen and laundry room. One bedroom was exceptionally large with a full size bed and two twin beds in it, the second bedroom also decent size with a full bed. The cost was $150./nt. For those that like nicer hotels there is a Hilton and a Marriott within 10 minutes walking distance of those clubs.

When I write these review I always try to say IMHO, because so many things are subjective to each individual, whether it’s the guys, the hotel, the food, the sights. This trip was a good case in point. Two of us regularly travel to Brazil and Europe together, this time a good friend who goes to Rio regularly with us came along. He had never been to either city before. He did not care for the “scene” in Prague but really liked the Sauna in Barcelona! I had just the opposite view! J So please remember that when reading that your opinion might vary from mine, but I try describe it as accurately as possible.

PRAGUE - The rent boy scene in Prague is centered around Monty’s bar and Club Temple which are basically next door to each other, As I previously described in the older posting, Monty’s Bar is a hole in the wall bar with 6 bar stools, two living room style chairs and a sofa and a couple of other chairs! It is probably the size of the average NYC apartment living room! There is a back room with some video machines but that was closed off. Yet this trip like my last two, is where I met most of the guys I went with! Club Temple, used to be the infamous Pinocchio’s’ which had developed a bad reputation. Several years ago it was bought by a So. California guy and he had cleaned it up completely! It’s nice looking inside albeit different! Looking something like a Cave! But if was busy and we were never pressured hustled at either place. My friend who had only been to the Brazilian saunas before is used to walking in, seeing 20+ guys at a time 7/8 naked and selecting. That is not the way it is here! In the case of Monty’s you pop in to see who’s there as you walk by on the way into eat, shop, sightsee, several times a afternoon/evening, The guys don’t hang there for long periods, maybe enough for one drink and a cigarette(EVERYONE in Prague as well as Barcelona smokes it seems!) we would usually check it out around 4:00 and than come back around 7:00 and stay for an hour or so, and than back again between midnight and 1:00 a.m. This is easier to do if you stay on the same street as these clubs are located as you have to walk by them to go into Old town or the stores or to the third Club, called Escape, as every thing is located past them. Escape is a Strip club, located about a 10 min walk from the above places. It’s nice, but this trip it really didn’t have any guys I was attracted to. Last trip we met several Bel Ami guys working there, this trip it was to me, very average looking twinks. The Bel Ami guy I mentioned in Last year’s post Alan Connery, was working at Club Temple every night we were there, I never saw anyone go with him, the rumor I heard is that he is asking $4500. Czk when everyone else is $1500.- 2000. (2000. Czk is around a 100. U.S.)

Types of Guys in Prague: Basically it is 18 to 25 yr. olds, Twinks, average to swimmer type bodies. Very few body builder/muscled types this trip. The last couple of trips maybe 15% or so were more muscled guys.

My first night there we went first to Monty’s and I saw a guy sitting there, very handsome I thought, with chiseled features, wearing a baseball cap. He was about 5’8” was wearing baggy jeans and shirt so I couldn’t really tell what his body was like. Since this was the first bar and early in the evening I decided to wait and check out the other places. About midnight we were at Club Temple and there he was at the bar, I walked up to him and we talked for a few minutes, he seemed shy(this was not the case as I would find out! LOL). Turns out he was from Bratislava where many of the BelAmi guys are from. He was Slovak, It seems to me that the Czech guys seem fairer skinned and lean towards blonde/brown hair and the Slovak guys tend to look more “Italian”. At least all the Slovak guys I have met the past three years ago fit this type! We got back to the apartment which is only a 5 block walk from the two clubs, another advantage to both that and the Ariston hotel. He asked to take a shower, when he walked out, naked, I was surprised at the huge dick he had!! I saw him two more times over the next several days and once he got to know you his personality really came out!

The second afternoon he came buy for a “visit” and than we headed out again. After going to Escape to watch their strip show, we walked back over to Monty’s around midnight. Sitting at the bar was a beautiful 19 yr old, blue eyed twink, with a incredible face. I walked back to the bathroom and he followed me, I asked him if he spoke English and he said “a little”. I didn’t want to waste any time or let my friends see him, so I asked right away, do you want to come back to the apartment and he smiled and we were gone! He told me he had 5 brothers and one of them also escorts!

On any given night, there were about a dozen to 15 guys at Club Temple working after 9:00 p.m. Monty’s is harder to judge as the guys constantly go between the two clubs and some guys don’t want to pay the cover and don’t go to Temple but stay at Monty’s’. But I never found it difficult to at least find 2 or 3 I would like.

My friend just had a more difficult time finding guys and than approaching them than I did. Also he prefers to be at one place, stay there and have a selection like you do in the Brazilian saunas. If you are like that than Prague wouldn’t be for you. I like Prague because it is somewhat reminiscent of Numbers in L.A. or Stella’s in NYC, and I miss the hustler bars.

BTW, we would see several of the guys from the bars hanging out at the train station during the day, the main train station is also very close to these two bars.

Barcelona: Besides the many escorts listed on Gayromeo, Escupido and several other sites in Barcelona, the main place for action here is Thermas Sauna. It is in a nice part of the city, very close to the tourist center on Las Rambla, The sauna operates very similar to the Brazilian saunas, It is very clean, large and a nice facility. 75% of the guys working here are Brazilian! When I walked in I immediately saw 3 guys that I haven’t seen in 4 or 5 years from Rio! The rest of the guys seem to be mostly Romanian, one or two Russian, and a couple more from other Eastern European countries. I asked one of the Brazilians “are there any Spanish guys working here”? and he had to think about it and than said “I don’t think so”! One of the first guys we see is a guy that is incredibly handsome body builder type that had been in Kristin Bjorn films, don’t know his name but was one of those who face would stop traffic…in a good way!

Here it is the opposite of Prague, the majority are muscled guys, at least over the two days we were there! The Romanians tend to be average to swimmer build. Also the majority of the guys seem to be in the over 25 yr. group, and at least 6 in the over 30 yr.old group! So if you like younger guys under 25, you are pretty much stuck choosing one of the Romanians. As I was going to the locker room to change on my last day there, I run into a really good-looking Russian with incredible blue eyes and who spoke flawless English, since we were leaving I couldn’t go with him but have his email and telephone as he is someone that not only impressed with his looks, but he was joking and being very funny in English and it’s his 4th language After Russian, Danish, Spanish! His intelligence was as much a turn on as his looks.

What I don’t like about Thermas! Overall the guys are much more aggressive, and the term hustler more aptly applies! I went with 4 different guys there and in each case, prior to going up to a room settled on a price and what we would do! In every case, they tried to change it ½ way through or at the end, all tried to change the price and ½ out right lied about what they did. This is not something I am used to in Brazil or in Prague. It was a turn off. Also unlike other places it is hard to sit In the bar area and not constantly be harassed by the guys.(it makes the guys working at Pointe Sauna in Rio seem shy and reticent by comparison!) Now, my friend loved it! He likes being the object of the attention and having them approach him. So when I say we all have to look at these reviews from our own perspective, this is a good example.

Funny side note: The hotel we stayed at in Barcelona, called the “B Hotel”, is new, very modern, I think it reminded me somewhat of the “W Hotel” times Square. Great location and only three blocks from the sauna, next to a subway stop, close to everything, But a little too innovative for me! It took me 10 minutes to figure out how to turn on the lights in the room, there are no on/off switches, just some obscure buttons on the wall, in out of the way places to not detract from the décor I guess! Than when I went to take a shower, I could not figure out how to turn it on! And had to call housekeeping! Than when I wanted to turn the A/C on the same problem!! Now I am the first to admit I am not the brightest guy out there, but…10 minutes to figure out the lighting!!?? The closet has no door on it just a Curtin, you have to hold up the Curtin with one hand while bending over at the digital thermostat is located about 3’ off the floor, there is no light so you have to use your cell phone to be able to see what temps you are programming in! When the maintenance guy came up to work it, he had the same problem! They went way overboard trying to be high tech! About 15 minutes after getting there, my friend called and says “I can’t turn on the fucking lights!!” LOL so I knew it just wasn’t me!

I forgot to mention that a great daytime activity is a trip to the Prague zoo! it's world class on par with the San Diego Zoo! The weather was perfect the whole time we were there, sunny and 70 every day. The last three years in a row we have hit great weather in September.

I found a ad for one of the guys that worked everyday at Barcelonas'Thermas sauna. He is typical of the body type and age/type that predominated there. He doesn't have his age in the ad, but I would guess him to be around 32. Each night I was there he sat in the bar across from me and I never saw him go with a customer.

I love Tomcals posts and his perspective on the various cities he visits. I visited Prague for the first time in July and his observations were tremendously valuable to me. I am a bit like his friend on the latest trip. I am soooo used to the Brazilian saunas that the scene at Temple Bar took me a day to adjust. I also prefer to sit back and have the guys approach me...but I ended liking Temple and Montys. Montys also has a great apartment attached to it which can be used for a quick connection with a guy. It's like a party room....great sound system, tv, upstairs bedroom, bath, etc. Although my hotel was a quick 5 minute walk from Temple, it was so much easier and more convenient to whisk someone up to the apartment attached to Montys.

I loved the comments about the B-Hotel in Barcelona. I've stayed there 5 times now. It is modern and chic and well located and I've FINALLY gotten the hang of the lighting system!!

Here's a photo of the outside of Monty's bar, they no longer have the deck/tables outside, but the inside is not much bigger than that outside deck, the second pic shows about 80% of the inside seatng!..but it has to be the most productive bar in the world based on Sq. footage if your looking for Prague guys!! :-)

It was the equivalent of about $25. The bartender arranges for its use. You can use it for about an hour. On one occasion I wanted to line up a couple guys and have one immediately follow the other....thought I could do that all within an hour. I was told that I would need to pay for two separate uses.

The woman bartender tended to be much stricter than the guy that usually tended bar. He would have probably not had a problem with me doing that as long as I stuck to an hour. But that night I was stuck with the grumpy woman.

BTW, there is also a sauna with rent boys in Madrid, Adan sauna and I went there last month. But I was rather disapointed since there were only a few boys, maybe 15 while the previous years at the same time of the day the same days, there were more than 40 boys.

I was rather lucky since when I entered the place, I found David, a young (maybe not so young now) man that I know since almost 5 years, who is a lovely Colombian. He showed me a picture of his wife, his house in Colombia (he paid 30.000 Euros a nice house)and most of his personal assets... He is a master with his tongue ! same as most of the Brasilians I met in the saunas. Rimming is not a problem ...

And he introduced me to his friend, another great looking Colombian with incredibly green eyes !

A good week end at the end, but I do no think that the sauna will last long, at least under the form of a sauna for rent boys. In addition there are many controls by police, to check IDs of the boys and we all know that when police starts coming to one place, punters are going away and therefore boys also ...

I am almost every month in Prague, but never saw this lad. He looks very good. I hope he will stil be there when I am in Prague at the end of the week. What is his name BTW ?

There are two men who are bartenders, one of them is Pepa (josef), very friendly and funny even though he does not speak much english. There is also another big lad who is gay who seems not to be friendly and who is mor strict when it comes to the use of the room (once we decided to have a private show with 4 or 5 friends and he simply refused because there were 2 boys (who agreed to do a private strip show) and 4 or 5 admirers). With Pepa, we organized many shows, paying the 500 kr fee (25$) without any problem. The girl is also very strict and she is pissed because she used to be a taxi driver for the Temple club until she was replaced by a young efficient romanian...

In Prague again. I really love the place. Monty and Temple were rather dead yesterday, but maybe because I left early with a great new discovery ? Normally I should meet again this afternoon this lovely typical slavic male, highly recommended to all visitors to Prague (see profile in gayromeo)

He is lovely and I love his eyes. I must go back to Barcelona.

He was recently in Paris for 2 weeks and plans to go to Brussell in couple of weeks then head on to Germany (don't know exactly where).

Anyway, I just talked to him recently and he plans to be in Los Angeles sometimes in Feb 2011. I will keep you guys updated if you are interested in meeting him.
