Members lookin Posted September 6, 2010 Members Posted September 6, 2010 I think again a cache issue. Try it again if you clear your cache. Same here. Except it sometimes shifts back to a 12 hour AM/PM clock, and it seems to toggle between the two when I log in or out. And sometimes on the main forum page, both date and time are replaced by a 10-digit code. Clearly a spanner has been tossed into the works. PS: It's kind of fun trying to figure out the pattern, so no need to fix it on my account. Plenty of time for that when the programmers return from their dachas next week. The 12-hour / 24-hour problem seems to have gone away, but the 10-digit number issue remains, even after clearing the cache. At least now, I can replicate it. If I enter the forum's Main Category page, the date and time for the most recent post in Lucky's Place is Today, 9:41PM. If I enter Lucky's Place and then return to the Main Category page, the Today, 9:41PM has been replaced by 1283748089, which I assume is the 'timestamp' value. If I go back to the site's Home Page, and re-enter the forum's Main Category page, everything's hunky-dory again, and the most recent post in Lucky's Place once again shows Today, 9:41PM. I'm using Safari on a Mac and, since I haven't heard anyone else mention the issue, it may be unique to my setup. Again, I'm not complaining. It won't bother me if it never gets fixed. But if it gives one of those hot Russian programmers another hour's work, you won't hear me complaining about that either. PS: Today, 9:41PM is the date and time when I'm logged in. When I'm logged out, the date and time is Today, 11:41PM. However, in either case, the 'timestamp' value remains constant at 1283748089. Which would make sense, if 'timestamp' is some constant numeric value from which local dates and times are calculated. Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted September 6, 2010 Members Posted September 6, 2010 You can call me a cab. I well understand the horrors that follow from customizing off-the-shelf software. Thus my remark. Maybe just stick a couple quick-links into your custom header? As OZ did by inserting "Click here for message board" into site header, in response to my request last time? Dunno if that is feasible here. But whatever might be possible. Thx in any event. Sounds like you guys got a thing going. Maybe you can getta room and work it out? I don't want to be a third leg on a pogo stick. Quote

AdamSmith Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I don't want to be a third leg on a pogo stick. As a lover of trannies and other oddities, I have to say: your image is too provocative to even think on. Quote
TotallyOz Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 From the programmers: We have common top file so all pages shows login link. Actually when we upgraded the forum much of the customized code was removed from forum files. And there are lot of files we have made changes for customization. We had missed to add this code so you were getting login issues. Now it will work fine. I have made it proper. Quote

I'm so frustrated with it right now, I can't even properly communicate the issue. I'll just say this: try logging in from the forum page and take the ride from hell..... Hopefully, this is just temporary? Quote
Guest Matrix Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Also, and sorry - there is now no way to return to the forum you were posting in when publishing a reply. For the well seasoned forum traveler you'll notice you can scroll all the way to the top of the thread and click the forum in the location bar, but this really is annoying. Thanks and sorry again. Guest Matrix Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Just another thought and please no axe throwing! Since most if not all these issues are related to the forums in one way or the other, wouldn't it make sense to simply and get an unrelated forum software like v-bulletin and link directly to it from the splash page at MER? That way all these programming changes would be a mute point as the two sites would be mutually exclusive of one another. Just an easy fix and cheap too. I'd be happy to set it up! Quote

It is better to have one site with logins that are the same. If not, we would have to have 2 sites and the names on both would be different. Maybe easier to manage, but not a good idea and thus why we are willing to spend the money to get it right. And, why we asked for a bit of patience and we will work on it. We always try our best to fix items that are brought to our attention. Thus, I appreciate you bringing this up. I log in from the front page each day. I keep my browser open. I never have log in issues. So, when others do, they need to tell me exactly what they are doing so I can tell the programmers to work on it. Again, I apologize for the frustration this is causing you. It is causing me more. And, the fucking tabs are back again even after I told the programmers if I saw them on the forum, I'll take 200 off their salary. Quote

Here's a question as food for thought. The only people who currently log in to MER specific, are premium members and those writing reviews correct? If those numbers justify "one" complete site with one login then that's the way to go. If not, then a separate v-bulletin forum with a secondary (or primary for non premium members) login still linked on the MER splash page might be something to think about. And, the forum site url name wouldn't matter so much since it would be linked from the MER splash page. anyway, I'm sure you'll get it right, what ever route you go. Quote
Guest CharliePS Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Now the annoying tabs are gone again, except on the login page. I just finished taking my computer apart and vaccuuming the inside to get rid of the dust. Maybe it will work better now. Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted September 7, 2010 Members Posted September 7, 2010 I login on the Home Page and never have a problem. It is lamentable that login capability has disappeared from the forum pages. Quote

And by the time I could log back in I had celebrated another birthday been timed out for edits. It should have read: If not, then a separate v-bulletin forum with a PRIMARY (for non premium members) (or SECONDARY for premium members) login while still linked on the MER splash page might be something to think about. And, the forum site url name wouldn't matter so much since it would be linked from the MER splash page. I doubt merforum.com is taken, but didn't check. Quote
Guest Matrix Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 PLEASE, PLEASE MAKE THIS HORRIBLE BLACK TEXT GO AWAY!!!!!!!!:lol: I realize it's probably on the bottom of the list. Now if you'll excuse me I need to begin the long and ardous task of finding myself back to the forums page. Quote

Members Lucky Posted September 8, 2010 Members Posted September 8, 2010 If I enter the forum's Main Category page, the date and time for the most recent post in Lucky's Place is Today, 9:41PM. Guest FourAces Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Good idea! Where's the splash page? Lookin its seems as if you found the "splash page" LOL Quote
Guest Matrix Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 woo-hoo! The log-in from the forum page was lightening fast! Thanks! Quote
Guest Matrix Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I see that there are now navigation links at the bottom of each thread in the forums. YAY! However, they are in white text which make them very difficult to see. Can they be highlighted in a darker color? That would be Faboosh! Quote
