TotallyOz Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Ok Guys. I am sorry but I always like to keep the latest copy of forum software that they offer. In order to do this, if you see any issues that have not arisen in the past, please let me know. This is a minor update and should not cause any problems. But, with programming, should and may are two totally different things. Quote

TotallyOz Posted September 3, 2010 Author Posted September 3, 2010 As you can see, in progress now. Quote
TotallyOz Posted September 3, 2010 Author Posted September 3, 2010 The upgrade is complete. We are now up to date for at least a year or two. I hope. It was a long day for me (nighttime USA time). Thank you all for your patience if you had issues accessing the site. Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted September 3, 2010 Members Posted September 3, 2010 Any chance of adopting the blue text format permanently? I saw it last night at the top level and liked it. Quote
Members MsGuy Posted September 3, 2010 Members Posted September 3, 2010 OZ, TY has a point. The blue type is much easier for old eyes like mine to read. Quote
TotallyOz Posted September 4, 2010 Author Posted September 4, 2010 I tried to find a way to do this myself. No luck. But, I'll have the programmer do this as I don't mess up the whole site. Quote
Guest FourAces Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 OZ I am finding a few bugs I think. First if I sign out of the forum and return to it there is no longer the link at the top of the forum page to sign back in. I have to go to the home page to do so. That brings me to the next bug. Once I am at the home page it shows I am signed in already (even though I signed out while in the forum). So all I need to do is click on forum again and it then shows me I am signed back in. Which brings me to the last bug. In the past if I signed out from the forum page it would sign me out of the site. Not when I sign out of the forum page it does not sign me out of the review side. WOW this is kind of wordy I hope you understand it .. if it helps the three issues seem to be related to each other. Quote

Members TampaYankee Posted September 4, 2010 Members Posted September 4, 2010 The Forum seems to be running on a 24 hour clock now instead of 12 AM/PM, at least on my pages. Quote
Members lookin Posted September 4, 2010 Members Posted September 4, 2010 The Forum seems to be running on a 24 hour clock now instead of 12 AM/PM, at least on my pages. Same here. Except it sometimes shifts back to a 12 hour AM/PM clock, and it seems to toggle between the two when I log in or out. And sometimes on the main forum page, both date and time are replaced by a 10-digit code. Clearly a spanner has been tossed into the works. PS: It's kind of fun trying to figure out the pattern, so no need to fix it on my account. Plenty of time for that when the programmers return from their dachas next week. Quote
Guest Matrix Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Re-posted from an incorrect thread: Sorry A more frustrating issue with logging in for your consideration. Scenario: I bookmark the forum page so when I arrive at the forum.index page there is no login ability on the page. If I wish to reply to a thread, I must be in a thread and then click reply which in turn then takes me to the login error page which contains a link to login. Clicking this login link then takes you to the home splash page where you then can then login. After logging in you then must click on forums (top page) which takes you back to where you first started (now logged in however) and then you must then re-enter the thread which you were also in to begin posting. Either a login field on the forums.index page or a better routing to a login would be greatly appreciated. You can reproduce this very easily by being logged out and navigating to the site through the bookmarked forum.index page. Thanks, hope this might help others as well. Quote

How original! and refreshing too! I agree it is extraordinary that you completed this feat without: locking out (with no notice), belittling and alienating all your contributors--while simultaneously begging them for money! I thought this was a required part of the upgrade cycle? You guys are doing a hell of a job! (Despite my technical niggles.) Quote

I thought this was a required part of the upgrade cycle? You guys are doing a hell of a job! (Despite my technical niggles.) Thanks JKane. We try. But, this new upgrade cost a fortune (free actually but took a lot of time and if I said it was free I wouldn't be able to continue my post) and because of this vase expense, I am no longer able to afford dinner. Can you help me out? I would need to have a cutie join me for dinner. And, did I mention, I wanted to have this dinner in Paris. I think Air France flies there. Business Class of course. Please. Please. Please. I am begging. jk I have been taking note of several of the bugs. This is normal as this is more than a forum site. It is a full functional site and we are required to integrate the log in with the site. If there are issues, we will work on fixing them when the programmers report for work. Bastards always want the weekend off. I don't get it. I tell them that I work 7 days a week. Please keep telling us of any issues you find. We will work on them. Quote

I'll certainly buy you dinner if you come to a MERmen (formerly Hooville) dinner, assuming we ever have another! I'm a bit hesitant since I realized that much if not most of the 'swirling vortex of shit' is between people I've personally met at the Hooville dinners I initiated (though Townsend often did the heavy lifting of organizing). As for a boy and a trip to France... I might buy a round at The Lovely Spotlight after, but good luck finding either! Only real bug I've had is that login stuff, but I haven't heard if anybody else had a similar experience. And the poll problem. Oh, and locked threads always looking unread. But the only one seemingly caused by the upgrade is polls. (Haven't tested login since the upgrade, I'm holding on to my restored cookie for dear life!) I also love that you notified in advance of the upgrade and apologized in advance for any (non-existent) glitches! It's night and day! Quote
AdamSmith Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Without totally customizing the forum software, would it be possible to make the controls for the "Personal Conversation" and "My Message" functions more visible and intuitive? Quote
Guest lurkerspeaks Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 I have noticed a couple of things since upgrade.... 1) the timestamp on posts are not accurate.. I can't find a place to reset my time zone. On the main page, it says i added this at 11:43am, but on the Lucky's forum page, it says 18:43 2) this might not even be related, but before, when I viewed the forum on my Iphone, I was able to enlarge the page for my tired old eyes, but now it comes in "one size fits all" which can not be enlarged.. Members TampaYankee Posted September 5, 2010 Members Posted September 5, 2010 Without totally customizing the forum software, would it be possible to make the controls for the "Personal Conversation" and "My Message" functions more visible and intuitive? Shirley, you jest. May I call you Shirley? Any customized features implemented always comes back to bite you in the ass tenfold at upgrade time unless the software company has adopted that upgrade in the base software. Then it is no longer customization but base product. I doubt that will happen as they have hundreds or more customers to support and probably a long list of features to add eventually. Maybe for money, but it is still unlikely go into the base system. So next upgrade would be more customization money. That defeats the purpose of buying off-the-shelf software. Maybe there are admin settings that influence the inteface of these features. I don't know but maybe Oz could have the programmers check. That is feasible. Basic site requirements already dictate some customization unfortunately. It causes extra cost, time and debug for upgrades not to mention user consternation at upgrade time. Addtional customization causes more of the same. Maybe there are admin settings that affect the user interface with these features. That would be feasible. Maybe Oz can have the programmers check. AdamSmith Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Shirley, you jest. May I call you Shirley? You can call me a cab. I well understand the horrors that follow from customizing off-the-shelf software. Thus my remark. Maybe just stick a couple quick-links into your custom header? As OZ did by inserting "Click here for message board" into site header, in response to my request last time? Dunno if that is feasible here. But whatever might be possible. Thx in any event. Quote
Members lookin Posted September 6, 2010 Members Posted September 6, 2010 Alongside the few minor tics, I'm finding several goodies that I'm sure to like, once I get the hang. I've been able to format text in the message composition box without having to insert any code, and any pictures show up in the box too. As do smileys! Who knows what little gems remained to be discovered? Quote

WOW this is kind of wordy I hope you understand it .. if it helps the three issues seem to be related to each other. Long post. Let me read it again. OK. Now, let me think on this. OK. Now, let me send this to the programmers and see what they can do. I will tell you that the hardest thing to do with this site is the interaction between the login for the main site and the forum. It has given 4 different programming teams problems. Why? It is not an easy task if one does not log into the main part of the site first. If one logs in there first then, the rest should be easy. We get issues when this does not happen. But, I'll present this to them again to see if they can tweak it. The Forum seems to be running on a 24 hour clock now instead of 12 AM/PM, at least on my pages. I think this will happen only with the people who went to the forum DURING the upgrade. To test this, clear your cache and try the site again.
