Guest Klair Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Why aren't those guys on India's Olympics team? I would think India would walk away with several gold medals. Quote
TotallyOz Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Great video. Thank you! I think we should set up one of these poles in WeHo and get the guys over for a visit. I'd surly be in attendance. Quote
Members JKane Posted August 17, 2010 Members Posted August 17, 2010 That's pretty unique! Are they each trying to do the same stylized series of specific moves or did I imagine similarities? Quote
Members MsGuy Posted August 17, 2010 Members Posted August 17, 2010 Good catch, JKane. Mallakamb is a sport in India that apparently has roots in Yoga (judges in competions are supposed to be certified by their Swami). It does have set postures and moves much like gymnastics. What did we ever do before Google? Here's another video from a 2007 competition: To me it looks like some of the moves are borrowed from gymnastics rather than traditional Yoga. ---- Somebody ought to tell PurpleKow to come take a look at the OP's video. He would love the thighs on the second guy & the way he wraps them around that pole. Quote

Why isnt this an Olympics gymnastic event? Probably because it takes balls of brass and a coccyx made of hard rubber to survive the competition. Quote
