Guest restless Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Just moments ago San Francisco federal judge Vaughn Walker ruled that Proposition 8, the ban on gay marriage in California, is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. http://www.examiner.com/x-58737-SF-Style-Trends-Examiner~y2010m8d4-Proposition-8-ruled-unconstitutional THANK FUCK. Finally something's going in the right direction. Quote
caeron Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I've read a good part of the ruling so far, and he just trashes the hell out of the proponents in his finding of fact. Says there is no basis for this at all. I don't think we could have hoped for a stronger ruling. Higher courts typically defer to the trial court on finding of fact, and I think it is going to be a lot harder to reverse this based on his finding of fact. Quote

Guest Klair Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Some are saying the judge made his ruling primarily to force the issue to eventually go to the Supreme Court. Some are saying he made his ruling because that's the law. Either way, I'm glad this happened. I'm not planning to marry anyone, but I want the right to do so and I want the same rights and benefits any heterosexual married couple is entitled to. I'm sick and tired of being treated only a notch up from the way Jewish people must have felt in Nazi Germany. Quote

Olbermann said last night that interracial marriages were not allowed in 16 states as late as 1967. I have no intention of getting married either, but what the fuck. It's ridiculous. Quote
