Guest FourAces Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I always thought coupons were silly or for cheap stuff off brands or poor people I was way wrong. I just had a nice savings experience. A few days ago I was watching the Clark Howard show and he was speaking about using coupons. I never paid much attention to coupon use ... too lazy I guess. Anyway, he went shopping with the Coupon Mom and she purchased about $110. in groceries (not off brands food I normally would buy) and after in store discounts and her coupons paid about $16.00 for it. I was like WTF I can do this. Anyway, Clark went on giving some common sense tips on finding coupons online and in our Sunday papers. Well this afternoon I purchased some casual shirts online and was checking out when I noticed a box to enter a promotional code. The entire total was only about $110. but I decided to see if I could find a code. In less than 20 seconds using a Google search I saved myself $20. by using a code posted to Retail Me Not website. You know its not so much the $20. savings but its the throughout the year savings I and others could have by just taking a few minutes and in this case seconds to do a little research. Now at my old age I am hooked. Anybody else use coupons? Any tips or suggestions? Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted August 2, 2010 Members Posted August 2, 2010 I use coupons since I retired and learned that anymore spending is really a zero sum game. (If I spend a dollar here I wont have a dollar to spend elsewhere.) But I use them only if: it is something I would buy anyway, and it is valuable enough to make it worthwhile. If I have to buy three or four of something for a dollar off then screw it as I dont want that many and a quarter per item doesn't get on my radar. Quote
TotallyOz Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I have family members that watch http://fatwallet.com daily. They keep an eye on special threads and buy the things they want. They do all Christmas shopping via this website as they get some great deals Often a business like Best Buy will make a mistake and give a code and on top of that discount the price. Anyone that catches it in time, gets the discount. She also tells me all the great ways to use my priority points from this and other sites and how to get more bang for the buck! Quote
BiBottomBoy Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Another way to save money is if you want to get into a pay website - like the London Times, lots of people have posted their usernames and passwords on the Internet, you just need to google them. Quote
Guest restless Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I know there's an app that, when you go to your grocery store, it tells you what's on sale and even has bar code coupons that I think you can swipe or something. Not sure, haven't looked into it, but I've heard some buzz about it. My friend's wife did a thing where she clipped coupons, and ONLY bought stuff she had a coupon for. She was able to stash away hundreds of dollars in a pretty short amount of time, from what he told me. (Bought herself a solo trip somewhere, and stuck him with the kids for a weekend. That's how I got to hear about it.) Quote

You simply scan the bar code of any item and it will show you the pricing and location of stores that sells it. I have used it a few times for larger purchases and it worked well. I love technology Quote

Members KYTOP Posted August 4, 2010 Members Posted August 4, 2010 I have started using coupons for groceries and get discount coupons e-mailed to me from a few restaurants. Some of the Grocery store chains here also double the coupon value, it more than pays for the newspaper subscription. Quote
Members JKane Posted August 4, 2010 Members Posted August 4, 2010 I always do a google search when I'm making a purchase online and see place to input a 'coupon code' or similar. It's free money! Once in a while as much as 20% off. Quote
Guest FourAces Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 It would be cool if escorts offered loyalty cards. Each time you see them they punch it like you might find at a car wash or hair cutting shop and lets say you buy 9 appointments you get your 10th free Quote
Guest FourAces Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Hey guys I found out about a site called GROUPON. According to a story on CNN its the fastest growing company in the history of America. They will reach one billion dollars in sales in Q4 this year or Q1 of next year. I can see why people sign up to the free service where a special offer is given per city each day .. but wow the fastest growing company in the history of the country! Quote
