Guest xiandarkthorne Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 So far, there's been no post here about Bali for gay men and I was wondering if it would be worth my while to go for a holiday there since it already has two of the three things I must have on vacation - sun, sea, and sex. I've looked it up on the internet but the results haven't been encouraging. There's been little discussion about what's actually available for gay men, how much things (food, transport, etc.) are going to cost and how much my sinning is going to set me back. And since almost everything I've seen is costed in US$, it looks as if Bali is going to be much too expensive for someone like me who can afford at best US$150 a day for everything. There's lots about the straight Kuta cowboys, too, but very little about alternative escorts. Any members here care to help with a little info or words of advice? Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted July 30, 2010 Members Posted July 30, 2010 Always wanted to go, never made it, so I am not the expert. From what I have gleaned over the years from message boards and internet searches, Bali really doesn't, or didn't, have an 'out' gay scene. The website: http://www.baligayguide.com/ makes it seems that some effort has been made to get a community going but you probably have discovered this already. Previously, it was my impression that any hook-ups would come from interactions at the beaches, in bars, or on the streets. Maybe things are changing a little? If you go it would be great to get a first-hand update. Good luck with your efforts. Quote
Guest Maxxy Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Just did a cut and paste for you from another board (hope the original poster doesn't mind), Bali does have a pretty good gay scene but it is no where near as developed as Thailand. It is also a great place for a holiday, the people are very friendly. I dont know if there is a best gay place but i prefer locations near the gaybars.Bali it is Dhyanapura street. Gay beach is from Oberoi Hotel till near the Petitenget Temple and La Lucciola Restaurant. To the gaybars i walked around 8 min. to the gaybeach 25 min. There is also action at the beach in the bushes but because of the near ricefields happy fun with millions of mosquitos. The action in the bars started very late. I liked Q Bar. Near the Bali Padma Hotel you can find the Hulucafe with shows but their homepage is down again. 3 times boys from GR have been coming to my hotel >> good and cheap fun.Next time i would never again go there in january but in june till september Quote
Guest xiandarkthorne Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Thanks, Tampa and Maxxy. As I suspected, I'll probably have to go there, investigate and report back. My problem is that I don't know how much money to take with me. I could change about US$1,000 in addition to about about 30 million rupiahs and hope that it'll last me for 4 days and 3 nights (an initial exploration into terra nuova is always 4D/3N for me), but I am reluctant to do that since any left-over money is going to have to be converted back to malaysian Ringgit and i would probably lose a large amount in the re-conversion. On top of that, US$1,000 would amount to nearly RM3,500 - a very large sum to risk on a holiday I might not enjoy because I couldn't get enough sun, sand and sin easily. Quote

Not sure where you are staying but there are a couple of familiar American Bank branches and ATM machines available. You might start off conservative in funds and recharge as necessary. Here is a list of banks in bali: http://www.baliblog.com/travel-tips/bali-travel/banks-and-credit-cards-in-bali.html Good luck. Quote
Guest Maxxy Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Accommodation there are some very good places from around US$40 a night, food is cheap so I would say for 4 days / 3 nights US$1,000 would be quite comfortable but I know for me that would be more than enough for a good time. Quote
Guest xiandarkthorne Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Once again, my sincere thanks to you gentlemen. I just got another writing assignment that'll keep mebusy until the middle of October, hen after that, it's off to explore the wild rice fields of darkest Bali if I can get paid in time... Quote
