The August Challenge

Here we are, sitting down at the computer on the 31st of August, I think a bit pleased with ourselves for the fact that we DID accept the Challenge and we DID follow through with more posts than this place has seen in some time. And they were pretty good posts too. Some threads hit double and triple pages, and we even brought some new guys into the posting fold.

So what now? Do we give up? Go back to out old ways? I doubt it. I think we all like having a more enthused message center to come to, more and more times each day.

What worked best? Responses, responses, responses. We can't get conversations going if we don't respond to the threads that others put up.

It's still a challenge to use some discretion- to avoid overloading the front pages with new threads by one person. Too much of that and the conversations we do have going get kicked back to the second page, and those following them may never pick up the thread again.

My personal thanks to all for a good month. We don't need Viagra- we can keep it up!

My sincere personal thanks to you as well Lucky. The August Challenge was a tremendous success. Although, I still need Viagra to keep some things up, I do know that I'll do my very best to keep the board in the direction that you and others have directed it in this month!

Thank you to EVERYONE who participated, played, debated, and posted.

Cheers!

I would definitely say it was a success.. Thanks for Lucky for suggesting it and to everyone else who contributed..They say it takes 28 days to create a habit. so now hopefully this board is a habit for more people so we will see it continue to grow and thrive... In this past month, I have had numerous message conversations on the boards and behind them in pvt with several posters as well as with TY and OZ..It is so nice to see them take the time to make posters feel welcome..

I am always trying to come up with a good, "long lasting" post to copy the success of my "three things to be thankful for" post over at the other site... That post was made on May 16th.. It still remains on their front page with 5595 views and 263 replies...I have a couple of ideas that I might bounce off a few people today and see which one they think is best..

Thanks again to everyone who posts, reads, and most of all, LURKS around here..hopefully one day soon they will take the plunge and SPEAK for themselves.

Remember how excited we were to take up the Challenge so long ago? If not, take a look at this thread.

Even though we may have record numbers online here, they are mostly lurkers, not posters. At times, MER seems quite quiet-too quiet. It would be nice to see people post with more regularity, hehe, and post more often. We don't want the same avatars all of the time, do we?

So let's give folks a response and encourage the guys with few posts or who do not post often to keep coming back. Let's encourage lurkers to start talking. Lurking would be more fun if more posts went up, right lurkers? So do your part!

With the holidays upon us, people will have other obligations, and we want to keep the forum going too. So, a special effort may be needed. But MER is worth it, is it not?

PS: Keenan-Smith, I see you are online now. Let's hear from you!

I was noticing how quiet it was around here today. I posted two different twinkie tuesday threads.. and one sits all alone, the other with just two responses. It seems like no post today is getting much activity...
