Going to be in London early July for the Tourist sites with BF any suggestions for reasonable Accommodation?

London is Rip Off City no matter where you book in. The one advised above is about as cheap as it gets unless you want to live in some grimy hovel and even then they'll rip you off.

Oh......and avoid the taxis coz if you think the hotels are expensive then you won't want to get in a London cab. I'm a cabbie myself but those boys know how to charge - BIG TIME!!

Rip Off - I don't think so but it is certainly one of the most expensive cities in the world. It is also one of the most glorious cities in the world.

Last year I stayed at The Travelodge Covent Garden ay UK£80 a night no breakfast. The rooms was very new, very small but had every basic one would want including air conditioning. The staff were all middle Europeans and exceptionally delightful and helpful.

I chatted to a taxi driver about the high charges of cabs. He agreed. I was delighted and impressed when he refused to take more than £5 when there was £7.50 on the meter. The same fare in Bangkok would have been about 40 baht.

Eat cheap? - yes you can. Panton street runs off of Leicester Square and boasts the Stockpot and even better The West End Restaurant where you can get a large plate-full of liver and bacon with veggies for under a fiver.

Happily the bus service is terrific with vehicles every few minutes 24 hours and you can get an Oyster card which you charge up with money to pay discount prices for the bus or the subway.

I reccomend an International student card for your b/f if possible. By hook or by crook. It will save on entrance fees hugely.

Also reccomend you don't stay in Gay hotels, unless you want to end up in Earls Court or somewhere and have other gays leering jealously at you. Why ghettoise yourself?

Paddington/Bayswater are good for 2 or 3 star Hotels.

wowpow if you paid £5 for a London taxi you couldn't have gone far, did you even get a mile? London is just sooooooo much of a rip off. Bunch of money grubbers down there, always got their hand out wanting your dough. I can fly to Thailand, airfare included, and have a couple of weeks there for less than 2 weeks in London and I only live up the road from there.

The most unhelpful unfriendly people on the planet mostly live in London not to mention sewage like Ken Livingstone and the myriad of scum at Westminster.

As a rough guide, if that's anyone's intention, an "escort" for the night (and by night they class that as 10pm to 8am) will cost you around £500 or 30,000+ baht usually cash up front then they hit you with rules like no more than two sex sessions, I don't do this, I don't do that and in general just hit you with a whole pile of attitude. The good ones are very much in the minority.

Oh but wowpow is correct, the buses are plentiful as long as you don't mind sitting squashed beside some smelly bloke though you could use the subway with the rest of the sardines.......and pickpockets.

The poster wasn't asking about the price of escorts , but for cheap hotels - a friend from Singapore is here this week and he used the following site to find good reasonably priced accommodation

I agree with wowpow, London is an amazing city with so much to offer, and if you do your homework you can survive on a limited budget - even in the heart of Soho there are places to eat that aren't that expensive. The buses are clean and air conditioned (and are extremely frequent),and really only packed if you travel at the early morning and after work rush hours, and again as wowpow rightly said, get what is called an Oyster Card from any Underground station or the many newsagents with the Oyster logo in the window, and you travel very cheaply indeed.

It isn't Bangkok, but especially in summer, it really is one of the world's greatest cities - you will see guys from every corner of the planet, and pray for a heatwave, cos then they wear as little as possible :p

(PS just found this site as well - no idea if it is useful or good: http://www.gaytoz.com/hotelslondon.asp )

At least you won't have to worry about no smoking rooms?

Smoke police: Who enforces the ban from 1st July?

Last Updated: 2:29am BST 02/06/2007

Telegraph UK

Enforcing the smoking ban will be the responsibility of local councils. They will have the powers to fine smokers for lighting up in pubs and places of work, from a church to a taxi.

The Department of Health has handed over £29.5 million to councils to help train and recruit officers to police the streets.

A pub landlord, vicar or taxi driver could be liable for a £200 fine for failing to display a non-smoking sign in their places of work. They could be landed with a far higher fine of £2,500 if they allow any of their clients to light up on their premises. Smokers themselves are liable for a £50 fine.

However, in the first three months of this year in Scotland, which introduced the ban last year, just 238 people were fined for lighting up and only 11 premises.

Officers will be able to sit among drinkers undercover. A Government-funded course is expected to train 1,200 council employees in the next few months, with more to follow later.

Ian Gray, the chief trainer for the course, said: "These officers do not have to identify themselves when they go into premises and they can film and photograph people to gather evidence.''

Boxer, you might look at "Priceline"...

Be sure to read the recent successful Priceline bidding hotels

on Biddingfortravel.com

http://p070.ezboard.com/fpricelineandexpediabiddingfrm215 .

and the prices shown are in US$ ...not British pounds :-)

here are 2 examples...

US$90 for Hilton 4 Star in London; and US$110. for Hilton...both with July dates

4* Hilton London Metropole 07/12-14 $90 First bid accepted--might have received the hotel for a bit less, based on what others are getting but I am happy with the location and price.

4* Hilton London Tower Bridge 07/07-08 $110 I started at $90 and bid Finsbury-Islington, added City and London Bridge at $95, Regent Park-Baker Street at $100, and Mayfair Soho at $110. I don't see this hotel on the hotel list above (maybe I missed it), so I don't know which zone it is classified in. I think it is a top notch property, so am pleased with the bid, especially given my other failed bids--see below.

Enjoy your trip.

I was in London last weekend

It was my first ever visit...

Amazing as I have been in and out of Heathrow loads of times on my travels to and from LOS!

As an Irish man I have never found any inclination to visit... But a rice queen friend who is living there persuaded me to come over for a long weekend... I have to admit I was astounded with London

Great City, Great night life, And Great... Asians!

Have never seen so many gorgeous Asian guys in one place ever (LOS or S'pore or Oz) The amount of Thais in london is incredible

I was so impressed I'm going agian on June 29th for Pride weekend

On my last trip I stayed in The Ibis Euston at £165 for a 3 night (fri-mon) stay - Definately one of the best deals going... pity its booked out for my next trip

Ibis Euston right next to Euston station, so very handy, with food Court, M&S etc And only around 20 Min walk from GAY, GAY Late etc

GAY Late seems to be the new "in" place for Asian guys to visit after Kudos, The Village etc closes, Be aware that you'll have to queue for ages to get in....

I'm sure ur BF will have a ball there!

I see that Ibis have 12 London hotels thought most are far from the center. The Ibis Euston is UK£109 midweek though they have a £10 voucher in the internet.

For comparisons the Bangkok new Ibis charge 1200 baht and £109 = 7,400 baht.

Thanks to colmx for the info I have bookmarked it.
