Guest tomcal Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I have gotten several messages from guys wanting to know what the best time of year to visit Rio and be assured of good weather. Here's what I have observed in 50+ trips over the last 9 years. My first four trips to Rio took place in October of 2001 and April, August and October of 2002. I never saw a cloudy day in those 4+ weeks. I thought, Rio is the perfect climate!! :-) My next trips were March, June, October of 2003 and I saw mostly rain on those trips! lol Rio doesn't really have a rainy season, it can and does rain every month. When I was there last week, it was beautiful and sunny the first 3 days and than rained the next 3. Rio's climate can, IMHO, be best compared to Miami. Rio's summers,(remember the Southern Hemisphere has the opposite seasons of us) Dec through Feb are like Miami's weather in July through Sept. Humid/hot One reason I have never gone to Carnival in Rio is it is held in the middle of the summer, February and there's a Million extra people in the city! Porto Alegre is considered to have a Humid Sub-tropical climate, summers can be close to 100 degrees during the day and in winter the nights can get down close to freezing a few times. When you tell guys in Rio that you are going to Porto Alegre they always make a face and go "Frio" meaning cold. June thru August it's not uncommon for Porto Alegre to be in the low 40's at night. When I was there last weekend, the daytime temps were around 90 and night time was around 70, very comfortable. The good news is, the suanas are all heated and airconditioned so if the outside weather isn't to your liking, go to the saunas! it's always "hot" in there! Quote
