Guest StuCotts Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Sorry, false alarm. Can't make the News link work. It's turning into a habit. The item says Rush is going to move out of his NY digs because of taxes. Who knew he even had any such thing? I wonder if it's an April Fool's Day item. Quote
Guest StuCotts Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 It was a genuine item after all. Jon Stewart's reaction is worth a view for the few who might not have seen it already. http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml The link will take you to The Daily Show's videos. Look for the title: Rush Limbaugh Leaves New York. For the moment, it's the second one down. Quote

Some say its because all the hardworking, honest and decent people left after seeing RL bail. Guess you can just legalize pot to make up for it all. You can have NY. Its ok, when socialists like you destroy NY and complain and leave, we willl come back and fix it all just as we always do. Quote
Members BigK Posted April 5, 2009 Members Posted April 5, 2009 Jon Stewart's commentary is quite humorous. But some New Yorkers run the risk, in their arrogance, of missing an important message. People who are paying huge taxes and running business paying huge taxes (In Rush's case his production studios) are voting with their feet. They will presumably take some real estate losses in their moves which they've probably factored into the savings living and operating elsewhere will save them. It comes down to the basic laws of supply & demand. Believe me there is a ready supply of areas with lower living and operating costs. If the cost keeps going up in places like NYC people and business's will vote with their feet. Quote

Manhatten has real advantages for a media operation, esp. one that plays off breaking political and finantial news, but, as BigK points out, taxes and operating costs are daunting. At some point CEO's wonder if broadband connections (& maybe a business condo) offer 90% of the benefit at 50% of the cost. Rush's public persona isn't to my taste, but remember that behind all that over the top bluster and those piggy little eyes lies a shrewd head for business. Quote
