Guest zachary Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 If anyone followed it this season, then let me know what u thought. Re stephan, thought he deserved it; wanted carla, clueless to hosea. re the judging, toby's blog pretty good, the judges are inconstent on the voting. score, app, tie, first course, tie, 2nd, stephan, 3rd, hosea, so a tie. and how to decide, that the 4th course of hosea's was way better than 3rd, stephan's over hosea. my point, in the past, Sometimes, score by courses, so 1 - 0; at other times, they seem to give a letter or numerical grade, 75% v. 25%, so ur behind by 50%. i still think they do it to give the nod to whom they want, it makes no sense. Casey's comments, follow, just too good not to repeat. I believe she cooked a pork butt wrong in the season finale of top chef when she was on. I'll say this, whoever went with a blue chees souffle for the finale, and who decided to cook beef in a way that they'd never done before, well, carla choked. liked her a lot though. like stephan too, first time i've heard someone called a "twat" on top chef, pretty funny. "Carla was not prepared and in over her head. The show did not talk about how the first course (crab) took her half of the friggin’ cooking time that day, I was left to work the rest of HER dishes. She also did not have a plan. The ONLY thing she had in mind was a cheese course! I would NEVER do a cheese course. And where in the hell did french come from!? She is not even classically trained! It (the show) didn’t talk about how I worked on a sauce for 2 days and Carla forgot to put it on the plate… It didn’t show how the 2nd course (fish) was MINE. It didn’t show how she took the sous vide idea and decided to GRILL it last minute causing it to be tough… And it didn’t show how she WANTED to do the souffles which she does not even know how to make! That was HER food, because it certainly was me asking her how she wanted to do this and that while she was busy picking crab the entire time and making a souffle that didn’t rise! I am done with TC. I did not influence her. She has NO ideas of her own, oh, except a cheese course." Quote
Guest mineallmine Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I caught up on the whole season this past saturday. It was fun to watch! I really wanted Carla to win to...though I am not to sure about her training. In one of the episodes she did say something about classical french training when she went to cooking school. However she is a home cook? I didnt get the inconsistency there. I defineatly think she froze under pressure. But i think its the first time that a "home" cook has made it that far...though I could be wrong I havent watched it in a few seasons! I am glad Hosea won over Stephen...i thought he was an ass and had the charm of an eel. Quote
Guest zachary Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Carla's bio uses the phrase she did in the series, whatever it means, "classically trained." she owns a catering business. hosea worked at wolfgang puck, degree in engineering physics from u colorado/boulder, no formal food training it seems. stehpan worked at the bellagio. source, bravo http://www.bravotv.com/top-chef/season-5/bios Quote
caeron Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I used to love the show, but stopped watching in the miami season when they tricked the chefs about going out, but made them work food trucks outside bars. Maybe I'm a bit sensitive, but the women were all in high heels, and then they got totally trashed by the judges for not performing. The sexism of it just ruined the show for me. Quote
