Congrats to all on your insightful comments specially to tomcal. You are right on point. I first went to Rio on 1999 and did visit Rogers around three times. The going rate at that time was the equivalent of $20.00. I did remember on my second visit getting together with an incredible guy name Ancio or something like that. Went back a third time looking for him and he was not at the place. Ending up getting together with a blond blue-eyed top who was not that good of a good top. I am writing about this so you do not assume that a guy you like will be there every day. I guess that now one can get their cell phone number if one is really into a guy and wants to meet him again. 

When I went back to Rio in 2008 Rogers had closed. Did spend more time in Rio so did go three times to Point 202 and twice to Sauna Gloria which I assume is Club 117. Prices had gone up. I kind of remember the going rate being between the equivalent of $40.00 and $50.00. Both places were a smorgasbord of men. Point 202 is certainly more conveniently located to those as myself who stay in Ipanema or Copacabana. Went to sauna Gloria on a Tuesday which I believe was a free cabin day. It was full of both boys and patrons. The only problem was that one had to wait around 45 minutes for a room to be free. In my opinion, it was better to go on days in which there was no such promotion. It is hard not to find a guy to one's liking.

Tomcal is also right as to security at the saunas. I also agree with handlebreak's statement that it is not necessary or advisable to hire guys through rentmen, rentboy or planetromeo. Their rates are definitely way more expensive. In the saunas one also sees what one is going to get and it is safer. In addition, I found that it was not easy to get non escort guys I had met through gaydar and planetromeo back to my hotel room at the Ipanema Plaza Hotel, 

I plan to go to Montevideo in November and plan to make a 4 day visit to Porto Alegre as I believe that there are no similar saunas in Montevideo. Does anyone know anything about the saunas scene in Montevideo?. I do like men in all colors but do prefer lighter skin ones. I believe that they will plentiful in Porto Alegre. So I am in Sao Paulo now and went to Lagoa twice. Overall, guys don't speak English at all but I don't need much talking as long as we agree on what we do.

First, the selection of guys is much better than Spanish saunas, with which I am more familiar. I was very surprised. However, it seems like guys just wait for the client to approach most of the time unless someone is desperate. I kinda like the idea that super hot guys approach me and tease me all the time. Kinda part of the excitement of the saunas in Madrid or Barcelona. Also, it is not really a typical sauna, it is almost like a bar with a lot of lights. I needed some time to get used to this too much light. 

In terms of guys, I got either very lucky or guys are just better at delivering. I know guys in Spanish saunas are just for the money and lie about what they can do, like I kiss, my stick is always hard etc but in the cabin some of them just don't deliver. Here, all the guys I have been with were hard all the time. Even a straight guy, who admitted he didn't enjoy boys much but doing it for the money. Also, they all kissed well. They promised and the delivered, so it is pleasant for me as well because I don't have to tell them, hey you said you would kiss but you didn't etc. Also, guys are so chill and polite or the guys I talked to.

I am still confused with the charges though. Rooms are 18, 25, 45 and so on. I still cannot figure out the difference between 25 and 45. Both we doubles with video but no shower. Anyone knows how rooms are different? Also, in one time I was charged for condom and lube (4BRL each). Is this also the norm???

Also, there are quite a few guys who want 150 as their going rate. I am wondering if this is because I am a tourist or because they think they are better looking etc With my limited experience 150 guys were a bit hotter, I must admit. But in Spain it is a fixed rate for all. And 150 is a bit pricey for Brazil, I think, because I pay for the room, so it is really 50euro in the end, not cheaper than Spain, which is much more expensive to live...Am I missing something here?

I am familiar with sauna Thermas in BCN...but correct me if i'm wrong.

In Thermas there are free rooms, which are just "boxes" of around 4 sq. meters of surface, while bigger and far better suites do have a cost. But I don't remember how much it is (maybe 15€/hr?). The going rate in Thermas is 50 (standard) to 70€ (uncommon).

The going rate in SP as in Rio is not R$150 (42€), but 100 (28€). With some guys it may take some negotiation but that's it. No one will refuse R$100, unless they're very demanded. And in any case you're not getting asked for more because you're a tourist...but maybe because you're new.

So in the best case scenario in SP you're paying something like R$130 (37€) including the R$25 room price, compared to the 65€ in BCN. 

But the huge difference is the quality of the guys.

You are at the beginning of the learning curve, young11, and did not fully absorb the bulk of the posts here prior to your trip, though long and meandering some of them may be. 

The costs do add up ... for example, Club 117 charges twice Lagoa's fee for condoms/lube. These costs are variable. 

For some of us, Brazil's appeal is not so much the cost compared to Thermas in Barcelona, usually less but not slashed. It is the cost (and availability) compared to our home base locales. Brazil experiences, given the quality, set me back a small fraction of local costs.

I offered 100 when they said 150 but was kindly rejected so I thought it was because I am a tourist with no Protuguese. How do you negotiate when they say no to 100?

Also, pricing wise, I think I got charged only when I asked for extra. When I rent a room, do condoms and lube come for free or do I have to pay every time?

Today I went to Fragata and it was mostly tanned Brazilians in all shape as discussed earlier. But I liked this place as well because guys were a bit more like Thermas in Barcelona and easily finished two rounds within an hour or so. Also I liked their Suite with mirror on ceiling. The saunas that charge for condoms/lube usually issue it automatically with the room key. Some of us supply our own and make it clear we do not need the house supply, so tell your garoto or the desk if you opt out. Nao preservativo, Nao lubrificante.

I am afraid I do not know all the nuances of whether they are only charging for an extra supply you requested. Each has its own policy. 

You may have to be aggressive and hold your ground if you are paying the cash rates for entry and rooms. Are they taking advantage? ... don't know. Write down pagar dinheiro when you check in and keep the notation to show when checking out. And you can ask for a printout before paying. Personally, they swivel the screen for me to see the tally when I ask.

Glad to see you are making it around São Paulo OK. Some favela districts are within "downtown" in São Paulo, depending on how you define downtown, and one street can make the difference between relatively safe versus dodgy and unsafe. Personally, I would want to be familiar with the territory, even if the guy claims it is perfectly fine. "You are not in Kansas - or Barcelona - anymore".

I do not remember any posts here referencing going to the guy's place as opposed to the poster's accommodations. Again, be careful. It might be OK, and some locals work the escort scene as well as the saunas, and likely host at their chosen place, but you do not want to be targeted. And do send the guy's contact details to someone you trust. And do not accept a beverage.

the escort saunas in Rio are Pointe202 in Copacabana, Club 117 in Gloria and Meo Mundo in Centro, all within 2 to 6 blocks off the Metro(subway)line making it very easy to visit all three in a night if you want to.  I have done this by starting at MM downtown and then going to 117 and then ending up at Pointe202 in Copa at the end as it is close to my apt.

here is a partial map of the metro system and you can see the three stops for the suanas.  Starting in the middle/lower right which is the downtown(central)of Rio, the stop for Meo Mundo is Uruguaiana, then three stops down from there is Gloria for club 117 and 6 stops down from there is Siquerio Campos the stop for Point202.  It is less then 12 mins. to go from MM to Pointe on the metro or about 30 mins. in a cab.  the map is distorted somewhat because my apt is across from the General Osario station and it takes less then 2 mins to go from there to Siquero Campos two stops away.

No I am not in Rio now, I just got back from Mexico and home for the Holidays! 

Personally I go from 5:00 to 8:00 or 9:00 depending on the day and who I am meeting.

Just went to 202 yesterday but I got there around 7:30, which is probably too late. I tried to go there earlier but couldn't make it. I think it was too slow at that stage. 117 seems to charge for condoms and lubes. I didn't get the receipt but I saw some small charges there along with suites and entry fee. This is slightly different from other saunas because I almost always got free condoms and lubes when I rented a room unless I asked for an extra. Also 117 doesn't seem to differentiate entry by cash or cc. I asked how much it would be if I pay by cash, the reception lady said the same.

I would venture to say slim to zero odds Clube 117.

More favourable odds Point 202, but any private cabin I have seen there is small and would barely fit three unless you spread out to the small toilet/shower ... unless there is a special larger suite. Similar odds New Meio Mundo where the cabins are comparatively larger, but the bathing facilities are poor.

If you do not know Portuguese, you will need to put in extra effort to clarify the "contract" for expectations, fee, etc. Threesomes alone with one customer and two guys can be complex.

The sauna scene is not known/big on twinks although they are there...

Most of the guys are not willingly saying they are bottoms because Brazil culture is very macho and the boys do care about their reputations....

Most of the rooms in 117 are nice sized...Pointe varies....

Most Brazilian guys are very private...I can see 2 guys maybe bottoming in front of each other but probably not 3...based on the possibility of their business getting out but Good Luck....
