Since “velho” simply means “older man”, “coroa” is a slang term, often used pejoratively but sometimes not, that can be used for either “daddy” / “mommy” or (more likely) “sugar daddy” / “sugar mama”. It can be used derisively at times, but if used positively, it’s usually used with those one is quite familiar with — like with a live-in uncle or jokingly with an older workout partner, but not usually with a stranger. Again, it’s all about context, and without really knowing both a good deal of modern, Brazilian Portuguese slang (spoken by millennials and younger) AND the context in which it is being said and used, it’s really unwise to broadly state that when a younger brasileiro states they are looking for “coroas”, that he isn’t looking for money (or gifts, or someone to pick up the tab), and isn’t presuming that he is much more likely to get those things from an older guy than someone closer to his own age. Of course, in some cases, “coroa” could just refer to a man who is older in age and appearance. It’s all contextual, and being able to discern and pick up on spoken and unspoken clues is important here. It is my ignorance of Portuguese. What I mean to say is young guys interested in older guys. In Brazil and Argentina is much common than in the USA. Quote
Sunchaser12 Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Yeah, all good Latbear! I read between the lines, and understood what you meant. It’s somewhat similar in Bali, parts of Thailand and some European countries; they have different and some cases broader and healthily perceptions on attraction, connection and the like in my experience. Members SolaceSoul Posted March 31, 2020 Members Posted March 31, 2020 Another important mistranslation often used in saunas or just by garotos and semi-garotos is the Brazilian word “namorado”. In normal settings, it simply means “boyfriend”. However, when used by garotos (and often when used by those who don’t define themselves as garotos but behave as such anyway), it really means “sponsor”, “sugar daddy”, or the like, and the exchange is understood to mean “in order to keep me from working with others, I need to be kept.” Context, who the speaker is, and the one being spoken to are all very important in knowing the particular meaning of the usage of “namorado”. I am keen to know your personal experience around finding a genuine connection with true affection with any of the garotos? I’m not naive but it would be nice if there is real friendship with romance, and natural tesao not simply something transactional where the guy is mostly straight, needs straight porn and viagra or has to close his eyes to think of someone else to get make it happen. Have you had anything long term or even relationships form out of this? My thoughts on this perennial question above: 1. The Brazilian saunas are a bit off the regular spectrum of human experience so that the usual dichotomies (transaction v. affection, gay v. straight) might not completely apply. I think most of the guys are a combination of everything. A sugar-daddy starts blending in with being a "good provider," which has traditionally been an accepted expectation and foundation of "real" relationships. An Argentine once told me some guys are just "gatitos" - little kittens that ask for a little of this and a little of that from somebody who can obviously and easily give a little of this and a little of that. Nothing too wrong with that, was the implication. 2. As for tesa~o, which I guess means sexual energy or horniness, again, these guys are not normal civilians! I've met some who I swear probably have tesao for trees and couches. A couple times, a guy climaxed with me without my asking and without asking for extra money, as they usually do. When I think back, those were end of the evening engagements, when they were going home afterward. They worked up that tesao all night, but they released it with me for their own benefit. Is that natural or unnatural tesao? 3. I never tried to pursue anything long term, because I am more about variety (and maybe ADD). However, there were a handful that, I thought, could have been an interesting guy to have around the house for a while. There was one guy I thought actually had some intriguing "depth." His body was not "up to my standards" but he literally seduced me with a great, look-deep-into-my-eyes chat beforehand. He was the only one I exchanged Whatsapp numbers with and we shared a funny text chat one late evening in November 2016 that began with "If Trump wins this thing, I'm moving to Brazil" and ended with "Oh shit." A couple months after that, however, he asked for money to go visit his parents. I've never written back since. So you see, I'm as wary and cynical as anybody. It was a small amount he asked, but I figured it always starts that way. Looking back, though, I could imagine having something longer-term and not completely transactional with this guy. 4. Going forward (if there will be a forward), I think I would open myself up more for something like this and tolerate a bit of "gatito" and see where it goes. If it turns unsatisfactory, you can break it off. Looking back, there were a few prime candidates. Latbear4blk, SolaceSoul, brockmiller and 1 other 4 Quote

At least 90% of the guys you have sex with in the sauna will say they are straight! almost all of them have either wives or girlfriends and kids. Once you have been with a particular guy more then a couple times more than likely he will show you pics of his girlfriend or of this kid(s). Often the name they have tatooed somewhere on their body is that of their daughter. Yet they Kiss, suck dick, rim and get fucked and usually really well. At first I didn't believe it, and thought it was just a Macho line of b.s., but over the years I have been invited back to their homes, gone to parties and ran into them during the day and during the course of all these things have been introduced to their wives and/or girlfriends! One of the other things I found both interesting and to me a little surprising at first is the number of relatives that work at the suana. Brothers, cousins, uncle/nephew, etc. Currently their are two sets of identical twins and two sets of brothers working at the saunas in Rio. One night I was at Pointe 202 and had a great time with a guy I had never seen before, he was 20 very cute, great bubble butt and very nice dick. The next night I was at Club 117 and ran into him and went up to talk and arrange another visit to a room and he acted like he never had seen me before! Turns out he hadn't, it was the twin of the guy from the night before. Another guy who I talked to in the sauna several times but never had sex with, asked me(he spoke excellent English) why I never went with him? I said while I thought he was handsome, we all have our types and he wasn't my type, he accepted that and asked what type I like. I proceeded to tell him and he said "you would like my cousin!" He called him on the phone right there and two hours later his cousin was at my hotel and he was right, I really lilked him! so much that I have been seeing him for the past 3 years! Brazilerios concept of sex with men appears to be if it's fun do it, their no stigma attached if you are having sex with a guy as long as you still have sex with a women! In their minds that means they are not gay! The girls attitude seems to be that as long as their BF is not having sex with another girl, it doesn't bother them that he is having sex with a guy, especially if he is making money doing it. I did find out that what they tell their friends and girlfriends what they do in bed with another guy is not accurate, they downplay what they do and most don't admit to being a bottom. If you are in the sauna and you ask the guy what he does before you take him up to a room, make sure you ask him out of earshot of other guys, most will whisper to you but do not want their buddies to hear! I don't recommend this for first time visitors but two of the hottest guys I have met in Rio, I met randomly while walking down the blvd. I was walking back from the beach and their was this incredibly hot guy standing waiting for the light to change. He looked at me and I said Bom Dia, and he replied and than looked again at me and said "Americano" and I said yes and than apologized for me poor Portuguese. We talked for about a min and than I said "possbily programma"? and he looked at me for what seemed like a minute but was probably more like 5 seconds and shrugged his shoulders and said Ok. We went back to the apartment and had a great time and I saw him at least a 1/2 dozen more times after that. He worked at one of the stores along Copacabana blvd. The same thing happened with another guy last year. Also descretion is important and handholding or kissing in public, outside of the sauna, it does not happen. One guy I see when I go down there is a policeman, who I originally met in Sao Paulo about 3 years ago. Now he works as a Rio cop. He will come to the hotel and we meet in the lobby and shake hands and appear more like two businessmen talking. Even in the elevator when it's just the two of us, it's very formal. But once we are in the room and the door is shut, he's a sexual animal! lol This guy is married, 26 yr, and has three kids. but in bed he is great at everything. One night we had sex around midnight and went to sleep. He woke me up at 3:00 a.m. because he wanted to have sex again! Yet he will tell you that he is straight! :-) It's almost impossible to find a Brazilian who is not a good kisser! They seem to pride themselves on that! Hopefully it will help those guys deciding to go to Brazil for the first time or help answer some questions. If I miss anything, let me know and I will be happy to answer those questions! Since I first went to Rio in October of 2001, I have made over 40 trips there and found that the sauna/rentboy scene has not really changed with the exception of, in 2001 there were two saunas, Rogers and Club 117 and now there are Five. Pointe 202, Club 117, Meo Mundo, Spazio18, and Galleria which was formally Spa73. This flucuates, it has been as high as 7, with several going in and out of business several times. The two mainstays are Pointe 202 in Copacabana(R. Siquerio Campos 202) and Club 117 in Gloria( R. Candido Mendes 117). I should mention for those who haven't been to Brazil, most major cities in Brazil will have at least one rent boy sauna(Recife, Bela Horzonte, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Sao Paulo, etc.) They all operate the same, you walk in and at the reception desk you get a wrist band with your locker key on it. You can change into a towel or stay in your street clothes, whatever your comfortable doing. All services, rooms/drinks/food are charged to that number and you pay when you leave. They all take MC or Visa. The sauna makes nothing off the guys nor can they legally take a "cut". They make their money off entrance fees/room rental/drinks and food. I don't want to get into a long discussion about $ but basically the going rate is $50.R(roughly $22. U.S today)for an hour. The guys are very good at getting Americans in particular to pay more, $70 - 100. R. But the competition is strong and I have found very few among the many guys I have been with that will turn down $50R. As a side note, I usually have one of them back to the hotel to sleep over which usually means from 10:00 pm leave the sauna to somewhere 10:00 a.m. to noon the next day and the standard is $150.R or roughly $66. U.S., this also includes dinner because we go out to eat as most Brazilians do, late, after we leave the sauna. Most of the guys will be in the bar area, but all the saunas have a video room as well where guys will be J/O to usually straight videos showing off what they have hoping to entice you. When you sit down in the bar area, they will be watching for the slightest look so they can come over and sit with you. After all this time I still know little Portuguese, but as long as you have a few key words you will do fine. Quanto - How much Activo - Top Passivo - Bottom Bom Beijos? - Good Kisser? :-) My advise to first time visitors, walk in and order a drink and take 15 mins or so to take it all in, do not go with the first guy that approaches you(many of us have made that mistake!) those guys typically spot the newbies and grab them up as they are one time wonders! they are not that good, don't do that much and know they can get the max $ for the least effort from new guys! Some guys are more pushy, don't feel intimidated, if someone comes up and he's not your time, just say "nao obrigado" they won't be offended, odds are they will be back around in 1/2 hour asking you again! You will find a mix of body types at the saunas, with some having more of one type than the other. Pointe and 117 have more body builder types, maybe 25 to 40% of the guys, Meo Mundo had mostly "natural" type bodies the lean swimmer look. But on any given night the mix can change. Certain nights are very busy depending on the venue, i.e. free cabin night, bingo boy, sex show, free entrance, etc. On Tues and Thurs 117 seems to be packed, I was there two weeks ago and there were long waits for cabins and I would estimate somewhere around 35+ guys working, Meo Mundo has "toweless nights" when the working guys are walking around naked on Mon/Weds/Sat. nights so they are busier than. Two weeks ago on Monday night, my flight home was at 10:00 pm so I decided to walk over to Pointe at 5:00 figuring there might be a few guys there and it would be more fun sitting there than in the lobby of the hotel since I had to check out. There were about 15 guys there at 5:00 on a Monday! including to my surprise one of my all time favorite guys who I thought was still living in Europe! The saunas are busiest from 6:00 to 9:30 - 10:00 but open at 3:00 p.m. until midnight. to be con't-- Very helpful advised. Thank you for this, it seems like you just summarize all the things that I need to know for my travel in brazil. Brak and Tomcal 1 1 Quote

Members yellowheart Posted November 16, 2020 Members Posted November 16, 2020 The media has focused on some of the most severe cases.. but if you look at the numbers; most recover..it is a game of Russian roulette.. Vacations are supposed to be a time of being carefree and free from worry but the media has caused such a frenzy that most are scared of their own shadow.. there are many at high risk but the rate of mortality is low based on the "numbers" published.. most who have passed had some underlying condition... recovery rate is 99% as BCDARON noted but the scare around the 1% makes you think twice.... there are also therapeutics now to treat...the media has done their job in creating quite the scare..on another note.... if this second wave is so bad.. where are the daily press briefings like when this first came out.... THIS VIRUS is REAL.. do what you have to to protect yourself.. make wise decisions.. another 4 or 5 months and "a vaccine" should be widely available.. Apparently it’s in a very poor state and with the additional strains placed on it by COVID it is in a very perilous condition indeed. Quote

In the U.S. we are fat and sloppy, meaning we will be more predisposed to having more acute cases and a slower recovery rate which can mean more transmission. Additionally, Covid is not the only disease to be afraid of here I am more afraid of the yellow fever, chikungunya, zika, and malaria all diseases that will still be here after Covid. You take risks anytime you travel, covid is just the new sexy buzz word. But with a 99% recovery rate I think the hype is overblown. They have us all psychologically scared because unlike most of those other aforementioned viruses this is airborne where most of the others are mosquito borne. This makes us extremely paranoid because as a society we cannot avoid other humans since we rely on each other to survive. Unlike zika or chikungunya we think if we can avoid mosquitoes or Amazonian rain forests we should be fine. So we are going crazy putting hand sanitizer an antibacterial not an antiviral on everything like it really helps. I am definitely not saying go out to super-spreader events but I am saying put in perspective it hasn't made the world way more dangerous than it already was. Actionforyou Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 I am definitely not saying go out to super-spreader events but I am saying put in perspective it hasn't made the world way more dangerous than it already was. I think we simply have different perspectives. I do believe that COVID has made the world a more dangerous place and I believe that many lives have been lost to this air borne disease. I am not in agreement with those that think COVID is "fake news." I also don't find COVID to be a "new sexy buzz word" in fact, I find it to be the exact opposite (a buzz kill word). While you say you are not advocating going out to super-spreader events, you have failed to give us a definition of what a super spreader event looks like in Brazil. Here in the US, I have heard the term super-spreader used for birthday parties and weddings (typically where there are 10 or more participants). If I use that as a jumping off point, then how would I view a visit to the sauna where I would expect to find far more than 10 people? You indicated in an earlier post about masks used in the saunas: Obviously that would be ridiculous to accomplish while having sex or drinking and eating.
