Members TownsendPLocke Posted January 29, 2009 Members Posted January 29, 2009 Hotel Carter in NYC voted the "filthiest hotel in america" http://consumerist.com/5141324/behold-the-...otel-in-america This place does have some interesting history http://gothamist.com/2007/09/01/suspect_questio.php Having stayed in some pretty run down places I must think that took some doing! TotallyOz Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 My first Gaiety boy was in the Hotel Carter. It was close by to them and very cheap. The Montreal boys used to love it and the staff there did not give a fuck who came or went. Quote
Guest StuCotts Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 In my sensitivity, I detect a dig in the title of this thread. I'll rise above all intended denigration. Some history: When I was growing up in the neighborhood, the Hotel Carter was called the Hotel Dixie. It was moderately priced and respectable, catering to economy-minded tourists who loved the location. The Times Square/Forty Deuce area went to hell. The hotel held on a while, then followed it. Now the area has come back. Looks like the hotel is lagging. I'm surprised it hasn't been demolished and replaced in keeping with its surroundings. Quote
Guest CheekChecker Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Totally Agree with Stu! NYC also has some of the Finest Hotels, of course not at $129 a Night But some are still reasonbly Priced! Quote

AdamSmith Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I will not be content until one can again entertain bois at the Hotel Chelsea in the style -- that is to say, at the very reasonable room rates -- enjoyed by the likes of Burroughs, Arthur Clarke, et al. New management evidently no longer grants eccentric-genius discounts. Quote
Members nytb Posted January 30, 2009 Members Posted January 30, 2009 $129 a night? It's almost that an hour at some of the hot sheet joints (or so I'm told)! Quote
