Guest Hedda Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I have read that there are no building codes in Chiang Mai requiring the kind of earth-quake damage-control construction standards that places like Tokyo and San Francisco have had for many years. But the city of Chiang Mai and the surrounding areas of northern Thailand have a long history of earthquakes, including a catastrophic one that destroyed Chiang Mai in 1545. It's scary to even think of whether modern Chaing Mai's multi-story buildings could survive that kind of quake. Quote
