Guest StuCotts Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 This is a tangent because I don't think Red River is anybody's idea of a gay movie, but in fact there is to my mind no gayer scene in any movie than the one where Montgomery Clift and John Ireland, all done up in their rough, tough cowboy drag, compare guns. Guest mineallmine Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Ahhhh Im a musicla person I cant believe Rent rated so low. I also think To Wong Foo and Priscilla should be higher. Priscilla is one of the first gay movies I can remember seeing when I was younger. I might have seen others and dont remember them though. A good list some definate movies to check out. Quote
Guest havan Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Overall, I think they have a pretty good list there. A few of my favorites that didn't make the cut... Home at the End of the World, A (2004) How could you not LOVE Colin Ferrell's character? Another Country (1984) English Boys school. First Loves. What's NOT to love? The first time that I saw it... For days after I kept flashing back on scenes. Europa Europa (1990) Not exactly a gay movie but it did have gay characters and a beautifully filmed full frontal scene with Marco Hofschneider! Shortbus (2006) Being aNew Yorker at heart I loved it. At least John Cameron Mitchell's other film made the list. Food of Love (2002) Kevin Bishop was beautiful as Paul Porterfield and it was pretty true to the great David Leavitt book. Tales of the City (1993) This was actually a miniseries so I guess maybe it didn't qualify but still it did a wonderful job of evoking a lost era in one of America's gayest cities. Times of Harvey Milk, The (1984) This is a good film about a great individual. I still recall how I was moved the first time I saw it. That Certain Summer (1972) (TV) This one is little known but still surfaces from time to time on TV. Hal Holbrook with a young MARTIN Sheen as his younger lover. Whew! Different for Girls (1996) Do transexual stories COUNT as gay stories? If so how couyld this not make the cut. Ruprt Graves and an opening shower scene that will make any gay man's heart bleed. Quote

Here is a recent video about Shelter. Amazing that was 13 years ago. It used to be the #1 gay film for a lot of people. After all these years Shelter hangs in there. nycman, Axiom2020 and TotallyOz 3 Quote
Gmanpdx Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Great list. Shelter is probably my favorite. One of my favorites not on the list is Friends and Family. Cheesy movie about a gay couple as mob inforcers. Hilarious and warm hearted. Quote
Anzabor31 Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 This is a great list. Something to keep me occupied during lock-downs and stay-at-home orders! Quote
