Pornstar / Escort

Pornstar / Escort

Where to Draw the Line

Escort, model, pornstar...these are simply job titles, all of which should be respected in their own right, but not to be confused. Individual pornstars may also have separate job titles. Some are doctors, some are teachers, some are bartenders, waiters, dancers, professional ice skaters, Olympic swimmers, and some...are escorts. But more often than not, most pornstars have to struggle under the consistent assumption that all porn models are prostitutes as well. Why should one title create another? It's honestly a shame that a porn model can't be proud of his or her job, without it also being assumed that sex and/or services are up for sale. And why is it that a large percentage of models are told, at one point or another, that in order to be a 'bigger star' they need to keep some would-be clients happy? It's the sad truth, but it's wrong. Pornstars should be liked for their performances on-screen, not off-screen.

First, let me simply say that my standpoint is not at all against escorting or escorts, but against the misled presumption that simply being a pornstar in today's society automatically links you to being an escort as well. Whereas, most of us pornstars would rather be associated with what we truly do as a profession. In saying that, I only mean to offend the certain individuals who think that a room full of pornstars is the equivalent of a buffet with a complete carry-out/to-go menu.

Some may argue that both parties are paid for sex, but consider this...pornstars choose how to express themselves, whereas escorts are at the mercy of their clients desires. Pornstars are selling a finished product, a scene or a DVD. An escort's product is his/her own body or time. Adult film is completely legal and an honest form of acting, or entertainment rather. The hard truth is that the core of most every escort's business is prostitution, which is illegal in all but two states in the United States. Porn models are paid by check by legitimate companies, whereas escorts are usually paid in cold hard cash by free-standing individuals. It's a free country, do what you choose...but many pornstars would rather not be directly categorized with illegal jobs and situations, such as prostitution.

Lately, I’ve been setting the gay porn world On Fire. I have a strong relationship with a wonderful Guy and this topic means a lot to us, and certainly heavy on the minds of any other non-escorting pornstar. We’re regular guys who enjoy our career as gay adult entertainers, but that where the line stops. It's depressing, infuriating, heartbreaking, nauseating, and most of all, sadly discouraging, that the general public and the porn industry itself, can't realize that not all of us sell ourselves in such a way. This specific, misconstrued perception of porn models is an extremely unsettling and disrespecting misconception that needs to be put to light and set straight, for the sake of every self-respecting pornstar's morals and integrity.

Being asked to sell ourselves is not a compliment or flattering to us in any way. Even if a certain pornstar were to escort as well, they probably don't want to be approached for an escorting job while they're representing themselves as a pornstar...I mean, a doctor doesn't want to go to a party and be asked to give a woman a breast exam. We're not just a bunch of pretty faces, bubble butts, and big dicks...we pornstars have our own ideas, views, and voices...all of which need to be heard! If you're a pornstar who escorts, be proud of it. But if you're really looking for a good hott escort, please try rentboy.com

Not that there's anything wrong with that. :P

Picky?

Bullshit.

If someone uses Seinfeld-logic, and nary a cogent thought, to disparage the way I make a living, I'm going to call him on it, cute or not.

Goodness! Who would have expected a genuine snit on such a slender premise?

Sodomy used to be illegal in about half the states not so long ago. I would think the gay community wouldn't be making judgement calls on legality.

And when you strip that away, I don't see much difference between performing for your camera and performing for a client. I think he has issues with selling himself that he's trying to cover.

Rod, you're a writer and reader of nuance. Could it be that StuCotts's laconic two words in fact winked wholehearted assent to your sentiment?

You know, laying aside the illogic and cant in Jesse's rant, it's interesting to compare and contrast the professions of porn performer and in-person sex worker. Performing in a sex flick seems a predictable, understood, rote job. All the performers know that's what it is -- a performance for the camera, even though the sex itself is not simulated.

Whereas escorts go into every situation having to navigate an ocean of unknowns. How to discern what the client, often a complete stranger, wants, often enough when the client is confused and even conflicted, thus not much help in communicating. And then deliver. With no rehearsal. And, in those impossibly tight one-hour engagements, with little chance for a retake.

And beyond that, the ontology of it: what is being sold? The body as commodity? That, at least. But then some clients seek more -- at least the simulacrum of an emotional component. How as a provider to fulfill that? Blake called poetry "the lineaments of gratified desire"; Yeats called him on that beautiful lie, revising it to "a hollow image of fulfilled desire." The escort has to navigate that conundrum: providing a true experience of a beautiful lie.

By comparison, porn performers, safe behind the lens, would seem to have it easy.

Jessie is a performer. He is sexy and looks great on film and on the stage. I saw him in Vegas at a few events and his smile was large and sexy. There were many escorts around him at all stages during the event. I don't think he has a problem with escorts, I think he is angry that people assume that just because he does porn that he is an escort.

I did offer to take him and the boyfriend to a show while in Vegas and it was turned down. I think the boyfriend had a lot to do with this. lol But, that is because it is what I want to believe. Reading his statement, I guess perhaps he thought I was trying to proposition him for sex. I would never have done such a thing on the first date especially since the boyfriend was so close and wouldn't take his eyes off of him. ^_^

Jessie is young and right now at a peak in his porn career. I hope that he is able to take this as far as he wants to go and does lots more movies. Not all porn stars will escort. And, not all escorts will do porn. Some escorts will not even show their face because they are worried about future repercussions. I don't have a problem with this at all. I have known more than my share of escorts who want to remain private in their lives and do not want the public to see them. Porn stars are the opposite. They want the public to see them.

It is just my opinion but I think a lot of young guys that go into either business go into it with ideas and dreams. Some come to fruition and some do not. The longer one is in either business, the more likely the lines they had when they started their career will start to blur and the grey area will take foot.

I am glad the information was posted here and have found the opinions stated so far very interesting.

But why would the assumption he's an escort generate anger, unless he had issues with it?

How about, "No, I don't, sorry."

Exactly. He doesn't like the implication that he's a prostitute, however if I follow his thinking, and the argument of scads of other pornstars, the key distinction is that prostitution is illegal and porn is not.

Unfortunately for that argument prostitution isn't inherently illegal, just as porn isn't inherently legal. (Just try shooting in Tehran.)

Therefore pornstars are "legal" prostitutes in the west just as the sex-workers in Amsterdam and parts of Nevada are as well.

Amusingly, one might argue that pornstars have even less control over who fucks them because they are under contract!

Scan the Hooboy archives and you'll find I'm way too defensive for my own good, which is why I rarely post anywhere anymore. Thank you A.S. You are correct.

Thanks. Stated a lot better than I could do it. That evokes a question: When are you ever less than rational and urbane?

I'm capable of fantisizing that you have a dank cave where you retire in the dark of the moon or when it's full. There you fling yourself about amid stalactites and stalagmites, your irises go traffic-light red, your incisors lengthen and you scream blood-curdling imprecations while visiting inhuman atrocities on helpless beings.

Maybe I shouldn't have had that second mug of coffee this morning.

Well. When the eyes were rolling back in the head due to Andre having me pinned to the floor with what felt like the Louisiana Purchase up my rear. For instance.

There's nothing better to promote instant comprehension of a reply than tailoring it resonate with the questioner's most basic life experience. I wish many Andres on all of us.

Jesse is very,very young.

He does give of a "hooker vibe"and may be to sweet for his own good.

I know he is constantly deluged with propositions for play for pay.And I know his BF has been very rude to some of these suiters

He is friends with lots of Hookers-and I don't belive he sees them in a poor light.

He seems like a very sweet and naive kid... and the fact that he's trying to change the perception of the world is evidence of that.

It's a simple matter of prevalance. How many porn stars escort? One in four? One is five? One in two? Somewhere in that one digit range anyway.

How many of the general population escort? The digits expand to maybe 5.

People are going to look where there's a chance to succeed. Not to mention, porn stars put themselves in a position to be desired.

It's part of the territory.
