Guest StuCotts Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I've seen reports in this forum about communications like that being received by escorts. They're always in more or less peculiar English and always identified as scams. How are they scams? Assuming you answer the letter affirmatively, what happens next? When and how does the scam set in? The question must seem hopelessly naïve to somebody more in the know than I am, but if anybody would take the trouble to give an answer I'd be grateful. Quote

The one I've heard about has the client sending a foreign money order for a couple of thousand more than the fee, upfront. The escort is supposed to cash it and send the client back the difference. The problem is the money order is fake, and by the time your bank verifies this, he has you money that you have sent, and you are stuck. Quote

Variations on the 419 scam. http://home.rica.net/alphae/419coal/ Quote
Guest SmallTownJohn1 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Beetwo is right on. The money order scheme is their M.O. And they really focus on MER. I have received requests from them exclusively from this site. They hit you up when you are reviewed, when you are featured or just trolling through profiles. American Male was their favorite before this site. I remember a young escort from Atlanta fell for this three or four years ago. He was out over $1500. That devasted him and he stopped seeing clients. Such a shame too because he was a nice guy who just got burned....has to suck! John SmallTownJohn1/Atlanta Quote
Guest StuCotts Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Many thanks to all for the information. I had heard of the 419 frauds, but never made the connection. Quote

If you read the fine print on them, you will see they state not valid over $500. On a different note, why haven't John and I hooked up yet?? Quote
Guest DickHo Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 "Am a Gay" is from Little Britain. Quote
Guest AntonNedvedev Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I've gotten a few of those in the past month, very similiar to other scams I've seen when I was looking for a roomate 2 years ago. Not to discriminate against our overseas friends, but the second I see mention of being from Nigeria or any other European/African nation, I delete. Same thing when they say the UK but their english is horrible. Quote
Guest SmallTownJohn1 Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Howdy, I must pull out my Little Britain DVDs...Is that from The Only Gay In The Village sketches? By the way, Nick or any other Atlantans... Has anyone experienced or heard about the CraigsList underage scam?? Dudes need to be sooo careful when dealing with CL...it's creepy! Guest SmallTownJohn1 Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Gladly, Suppose you are perusing the CL ads for a young guy 18-20 & you find an ad you like...we'll call him, "Big Cash Money" BCM has photos and all the right words to entice. You hire him. He comes to your home. You have an ok time. BCM begins to call you or drop by your home, out of blue, to see if you need anything, you say no because once or twice is usually enough and you've moved on. Suddenly, an older woman or gentleman shows up at your door with BCM to talk to you. They're upset/angry & say they are going to contact the authorities or news because BCM is actually Fred, a 15-year-old troubled son/nephew/ward. And they are not happy about it and what do you intend to do about it. The situation, whether in person or on the phone, becomes very loud, threatening and intimidating. All you wanted was a discreet good time. Instead, they're threatening to call the police or Chris Hansen. You're given two options---one involves an "offer" & the other is see you in court. Like I said before, it's very loud and intimidating. I've gotten wind of this happening twice so far. In one instance, they had nude cell phone photos taken together. It appears a ring of folks are in cahoots. Be careful out there. And NEVER invite CL listers to your home. John SmallTownJohn1/Atlanta Quote
