18 to party, 21 to drink in NY... gone???

Going to NY with a couple of college boys from Quebec to see some Broadway. These guys are 20... so I thought, no problem, we'll go to a 18 and over party...

Well Detention NYC is moved to Jersey, and Campus Thursdays College Nite Camp at Splash Bar is 21 and over (for a gay college party?). Heaven is just plain gone.

Anybody know if something happened that made the city crack down on these clubs? Or was it just a financial decision on all these clubs to admit only over 21? I've been to these before (surprise surprise) and they were always really well attended.
