Members marcanthony Posted May 1, 2006 Members Posted May 1, 2006 I know already that ultimately I will love Moscow, as one my first day here, my head snapped back multiple times for all the gorgeous boys around the place. But I have to admit that today was a good reminder for me at least that all this fun and games that we partake in all over the world is not without risk. I had heard that 3 monkeys was the gay bar to visit... so.... Off to 3 monkeys, which is a HIKE (and not in any gay village ...it's kind of in some kind of residential area). That's the other thing.... there is no "village". All the gay establishments have to try to blend in and be as inconspicuous as possible. Well as we get closer we realize that there are 200 special forces and police putting like 100 people up against some wall. The special forces guys are scary, cuz they carry BIG guns and wear combat fatigues. My guide says.... hmmm, wonder if they raided the club for some reason. So we play dumb like we are just walking by ( I notice that NO ONE talks to the police) and when we get past the club, he asks the club doorman what happened. He says these people were demonstrating against gays, so the special forces came to haul them away. They then herded all these people into two large buses, and off they went. Thankfully these were not club patrons, because they were not attractive... hehe But the fact that so many people would protest (and must have been fairly violently for so many police to come out) is even more scary than the special forces. So we go into the club... I know, I am either brave or very stupid... and we are the only two guys in there. I guess the demonstrators and the commotion scared everyone away. It's a nice club, and the waiters are VERY VERY cute boys (they look like the patrons of the VIP lounge at Unity... hehe). So we stay for a drink. After a while, people start coming in, and by midnight it was pretty good. I would say that besides the staff (who were all fabulous) there were about a half dozen ones that pass the test! It's not easy though, as none of them speak English... or very very little. But all of that is another story... and yes I am an idiot for going into that place when all this was going on... so just want to advise to heed my warnings, and not replicate my actions. Though based on what I saw today, I am certain I'll be back there this weekend. Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted May 4, 2006 Members Posted May 4, 2006 Marc, I am impressed that the Special Forces and Police mustered for your inaugural foray into the Moscow Club Scene, clearing your path of undesirables and lines that would impede your access. Your reputation preceeds you. :7 Quote
Guest FourAces Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 I'm sure this is an over-reaction but I just hope that someone has heard from Mark since the plane crash from Moscow the other day. He hasn't posted since which is odd for someone who always shares his adventures with us. But again, I'm sure he is very busy one twink (maybe two) at a time and I am simply wrongly concerned. Quote

Petersburg didn't have internet access. It was great though (see my comments about it below). And the boys in Russia are quite beautiful... though travel here is more difficult than most due to language and cultural differences which are significant. Quote
