Guest travelerjim
For GP: A Great Show Maisie, Toi & Cafe Royale! Great Show Maisie, Toi & Cafe Royale! Over 53,000 + baht raised for GP :-) Thank you All for making the special night for Allen - The Gay Pattayan... so successful and such an enjoyable one for me and my bf. Seated amongst two tables of friends in the non-smoking area of the dining room... we enjoyed the 8:30pm serving of the delicious five course dinner. The main dining room was filled to capacity and the bar area was active with guests. The Waiters - as always - provided very good dinner service. Maisie started the show singing at 10:00pm. This was the first time either of us had had seen Maisie perform and we were not disappointed. She is indeed a Star and her relaxed style and interactions with her audience displays her professionalism and experience on stage. At about 10:45pm Maisie was joined by Toi - who is our favorite singer in Pattaya. (My bf and I go to see him sing and entertain on many, many nights (not on Sunday) at the Piano Bar of Le Cafe Royale...until closing time in the early morning. The crowd arrives usually at about midnight as the bars and clubs close - many Thais and Farangs migrate to the Piano Bar for more fun and singing). And of course, the pianist accompanying the duo was superb - as always at Le Cafe Royale :-) Our guest of honor - Allen - The Gay Pattayan and his bf Ken - surprised many of us as he arrived at about 10:15pm to be greeted by many well-wishers. He quietly sat in the back of the full dining rooms and piano bar area...and enjoyed the singing of both Maisie and Toi. Allen nodded his gratitude of thanks and joy at seeing so many of his friends in the audience. Allen face really - really brightened up with a BIG smile when Toi proceeded to go to Allen's table at the back of the room; and Toi paid him his respects, with a Wei - a hug and kiss. It is knowm by many of Allen's best friends, that Toi is Allen's singing idol in Pattaya - for Allen would often as he could - go to hear Toi sing and perform in Pattaya. Allen quietly left the show at about 11:00pm to go back to his room for rest. His bf Ken told me Allen wanted to be sure to stop by to thank his friends for coming to the show, although Allen was experiencing some discomfort during the day and evening. Indeed we wish Allen better days ahead of improved health - and we look forward to the return of Allen's welcoming smile soon. The fund raising efforts, organized by the Management of Le Cafe Royale and supported by many of their gay business friends, started with the opening of a greeting card envelope given during the night to Mick - The Bar Manager for Le Cafe Royale....from our own Oogleman - who was in attendance with friends. The note card expressed his thanks to Allen - The Gay Pattayan - for Oogleman was a reader of the Weekly Report - and Allen had helped him have more enjoyable visits to Thailand and Pattaya...included in the envelope was his personal donation of 10,000 baht :-) Two auctions of several very fine bottles of champagne and wine resulted in a donation of 8,500 baht and 10,000 baht = total of 18,500 baht from the auction. It was obvious from the bidding that the wines and champagnes offered were very treasured. A donation box was passed about the audience by one of Le Cafe Royale's Waiters :-) ...and over 10,000 baht was collected for Allen. The raffle tickets for many of the fine prizes and gift certificates donated by friends of Le Cafe Royale in the gay business community raised an amount over 14,000 baht. David of La Cage was key and helped with gathering the donations of gifts and gift certificates...another fine example of his outstanding community spirit! Panorama Pub, My Life Bar, Le Cafe Royale, La Cage Bar, Throb Show Bar & Club all were donors of the many raffle gifts. It was announced by Brian - (Boxer) - of Boxertravels.net - that the efforts of the gay community worldwide over the past 17 days had resulted in over 330,000 baht in donations plus the efforts of tonight's special night at Le Cafe Royale. He thanked everyone for being there when Allen needed us most! "Following tonight's evening, Brian said, the fund raising efforts will be closed - with a few more donations already known to be in the pipeline from credit card donations and several being delivered to Pattaya in the coming weeks as visitors arrive. Boxer thanked the Gay Business Community at the Jomtien Complex for their Fab Feb Feb 1st Street Party which raised 101,500 baht....including the donation of 40,000 baht from Pattaya Properties. He also thanked The "SPICE" Magazine for getting the word out on their website of Allen's needs and for making available the use of their secure credit card facility which raised over $1,350. in credit card donations from donors worldwide. Boxer thanked all guests in attendance for coming out to Le Cafe Royale - for the host sponsorship of the dinner and show, and their leadership in making the event a success. What a night of good cheer, good food, good entertainment and such a joy to personally see Allen. Thanks to everyone in attendance for making the evening such a success and so enjoyable for us. My bf and I were happy to be part of Allen's friends at Le Cafe Royale last night. Over 53,000 +baht during the night was raised for Allen's Medical Fund....and, I understand that Le Cafe Royale and Boxer will be releasing a full report on the financial results from the event soon. (The amounts I have posted were from my recollection and some notes I took during he evening). And of course - Boxer NOW HAS photos of this special night on his website: http://www.boxertravels.net/cafe-maisie/index.htm . http://www.boxertravels.net/odds/allen.htm . http://www.boxertravels.net/ .
